I agree here. Trump is acting impulsively here, which is normal for him. He wants a troop surge in Afghanistan, meaning he wants to "win" the war in Afghanistan. That he doesn't have a plan to do so is not surprising. Again, the man is impulsive. But in order to succeed he will need Pakistan's help, how else are the troops and their supplies reach Afghanistan?

Trump messed things up when he declared Syed Sahaluddin a terrorist. This makes difficult for Pakistan, who cannot be seen to be readily agreeable to US requests. In fact, Pakistan will demand more in return.
