US Seeks Vietnamese Base to Counter China

China can carpet bomb any place in Vietnam that it feels like. Unlike soft Americans, there will be no pause in Chinese Rolling Thunder. Six months of non-stop bombing. Vietnam will become one giant crater. No one will be able to find Hanoi on a map.

[Note: Thank you to A.Man for the first picture and Deino for the second caption.]

After six months of non-stop bombing, China don't have more aircrfts, think about how many US aircrafts are shootdown in Vietnam war. You Majesty is very kind to your lowly subject, but I'm tired of the busy rich life in Hong Kong, can Your Majesty award me a lordship in Sikkim. I think the mountains are good for me to pray to the Buddha, you know.

My dear Vietnamese friends and brothers, please ignore the hurtful words and foul language spoken by another Bangladeshi, an inveterate China supporter. Please accept my apologies for his behavior. There are some people like that in Bangladesh, who adopt an idea and keep believing in it, despite changed circumstances in the world.

Banglar Lathial on the other hand sounds like he represents more of our national view, in my personal opinion of course.

In geopolitics one needs to be nimble and flexible and not tied down to any dogma. Situation changes with time and one needs to react to changed situation.

Martian2 obviously is a Chinese-American with extreme hawkish Han-nationalist views. But he does make some good points without resorting to foul language like some idiots. I like his views because he cuts to the chase without much decorum and he shows the real threats. The threats are there and they need to be addressed.

Indeed, Martian2 beautifully demonstrates my opening sentence in my New World Order thread, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely:

We need a ASEAN+ with nuclear war heads from Japan to Bangladesh and in all its individual states to counter any threats from outside. One should not play around with their own existence and MAD cannot be truly MAD, unless population and size of economies are matched. That in a nutshell are my views. Chinese arrogance comes from its size, unless we can stand up to it with equal or similar size, we will be outmatched. Far away powers like USA are temporary balancers only, not long term solutions. I don't know about Japanese nationalists, what they are thinking now. But I interact with a patriotic and nationalistic Korean and I get the same feeling from this person, that a fully militarized ASEAN+ is the only solution to the Chinese threat and when push comes to shove, USA may not be there to die for us.

Bangladesh has no direct threat from China, but China wants to use us as a pawn using some China-supporters among us. I say no-thanks. China or India cannot take Bangladesh and Pakistan and make them part of their own, so we need to look for our homes elsewhere. That is why I suggest ASEAN+ for Bangladesh and Eurasia+ for Pakistan:

Yes, VietNam a member of ASEAN already have Nuke capable Shaddock missile, we also have the right to enrich uranium (that cna make nuke warhead secretly). From now, No one can threat ASEAN region with Nuke attack :victory:

with Warhead: 1000kg conventional , normal power of Shaddock missile is equal with half power of nuke bomb dropped in Hirosima already.

Correct US-China have large territories, each small ASEAN nations can't fight against them, that's why, they think they can bully small nations like us, so we need a strong ASEAN (or ASEAN +)solidarity to match with the size and power of China-US.

Even the U.S. has no hope of stopping the PLA in Eurasia.

China had considerable efforts to modernize PLA after she received the painful lesson from Vietnam in 1979.
No deny she's a big fire power in Asia today, but if compared with Uncle Sam, China is just a dwarf guy.

We welcome you as the new Bangladeshi Ambassador to Viet Nam. Can you tell our readers about the achievements in bilateral ties between Viet Nam and Bangladesh in recent years?

Bangladeshi Ambassador to Viet Nam Mr. Supradip Chakma

Bangladesh maintains excellent bilateral relations with Viet Nam based on long traditional and historical ties. Soon after its independence in 1971, Bangladesh followed with keen interest and supported Viet Nam's struggle. There was a strong nation-wide movement of the Bangladeshi people in support of Viet Nam's fight for liberation. Bangladesh was the first country in South Asia and the second in Asia to recognise and establish diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level with the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Viet Nam. On February 11, 1973, Viet Nam and Bangladesh officially established diplomatic relations.
Bangladesh attaches great importance to consolidating and developing its multifaceted bilateral relations with Viet Nam. However, relations should be strengthened based on the strong historical commonality of the past. It should be mentioned that since the assumption of the present democratic Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a look east policy encompassing the ASEAN nations has been emphasised. The two countries have maintained effective co-ordination in regional and international fora and exchanged views on important bilateral or international issues of mutual interest.
Through the exchange of high level visits, the two countries' relations have become even stronger and closer. It's true that the existing relations would be further strengthened if the expected top-level visit from Viet Nam could be realised or the same could be arranged from Bangladesh in future. Framework co-operation agreements such as the JEC, although overdue, are awaiting a date to be signed by Viet Nam. Signing of a cultural co-operation agreement is in the final stage and hopefully the signing of this co-operation agreement will further enhance our relations. A significant number of agreements/MOUs between the two countries have also been concluded.

If China is a midget, then Vietnam is a mere ant. :coffee:

We don't swank like "China can carpet bomb any place in Vietnam that it feels like. Unlike soft Americans, there will be no pause in Chinese Rolling Thunder" ...

The truth is that Uncle Sam needs a huge market China, rather than fear China.

China starts with a naval blockade of Vietnam

When hostilities break out, China can start by imposing a naval blockade of Vietnam. Nothing gets in and nothing gets out.

Budget determines none of this.
Then what does it determines?

Budget=Budget. Therefore, valid example.
GCC is not a single country. Russia is a single country. Therefore, invalid example.

Australia and Canada do not field strong militaries despite their greater budgets as measured by nominal exchange rates than Iran, Pakistan, Egypt, or NK.
Your assessment is wrong. Both Canada and Australia field high-tech militaries. Yes, these nations do not field large ground forces but they do field impressive air and naval forces. And these nations also possess greater flexibility to adapt to new threats, thanks to their budgets.

You are wrong about Iranian current military orientation, but the rest are fine.
Iranian current military orientation is similar to that of Iraq.

Also, Canadian and Australian air power and naval power is not noteworthy. What's so 'impressive' about F-18 as the mainstay ofairforces?
You think that F-18 is a bad plane? It is mainstay of even USN.

So these cases also show that budgets alone do not show much, especially when measured by nominal exchange rates.
Bro, budget encompasses lot of things. We just need to look at the big picture instead of just figures.

As an example; if Pakistani military gets budget equivalent to that of Russia, don't you think that Pakistani military capabilities will improve?

So you have admitted that USA depends on nuclear weapons.
USA does not as much depends on nuclear weapons as other nations.

Why is that if it maintains such a quantitative and/or qualitative edge against all its nearest 'competitors' as defense budget bar chart would wrongly portray? Same is the case with France and Britain. Why do they maintain nuclear capabilities if their conventional capabilities are about the same as Russian as you would think judging by defense budgets alone?
Bro, USA is the greatest military power in current times. Their is no need to prove this point. Russia does not even comes close in conventional sense. UK and France are among the leading NATO powers. You expect these nations to be militarily weak? UK possesses the capability to project power much further from its land. And France is arguably the strongest NATO nation in existence. And not to forget that all 4 of these nations can develop their own weapons. Imagine the costs involved in R&D projects?

In addition, all 4 of these nations possess second strike nuclear capabilities.

Military only takes orders from politicians.
Ponder over this again.

That was not the only time it did.
That is the only time.

More so than ideal geography, it's the fact that no neighbour in the Americas threatens them. Japanese progress was hindered because its supply lines were stretched thin, it had captured the bulk of East Asia, and was managing those regions. If they fought USA alone with their resources secured, and if Germans also fought USA alone with their supply lines secured, they would probably be ruling the Western and Eastern parts of USA, respectively.
We can only speculate in this regard. Germany lacked the naval capability to stage Normandy like ground invasion as a starter.

China was not a target.
Chinese interests were at stake in Libya. And China lost this country to Western powers.

More than once. Serbia was defeated in what? It could no longer carry out genocide, but Serbia was not captured.
More than once? Serbia downed just one. Others downed were different aircraft.

And occupation of Serbia was not the objective. It was to weaken it militarily and prevent genocide of Bosnia.

USSR was dissolved in 1991, officially.
After the Persian Gulf War.

So you think that defense budget alone does not tell you how strong a military is? That's what I also said.
Budget indicates the big picture which many people fail to realize.
