US resolution calls Bangladesh to curb Jamaat

A resolution has been introduced at the United States’ House of Representatives against Jamaat-e-Islami, the group involved in war crimes during Bangladesh’s Liberation War.

US Congressman Jim Banks introduced the resolution on February 28, calling Bangladesh to curb the activities of Jamaat.

The resolution ‘Expressing concern about the threat posed to democracy and human rights by theocratic groups operating in South Asia’ also called upon Pakistan for the same.

It expressed that the US should more actively engage with Bangladesh regarding shared interests in safeguarding human rights, religious freedom, and secular democracy in Bangladesh, while preventing the growth of religious extremism and militancy.

It “calls on the Governments of Bangladesh and Pakistan to deny, disrupt, and dismantle the ability of Jamaat-e-Islami and its affiliates to continue posing an immediate and ongoing threat to religious freedom and regional stability”.

It also called on all US agencies to halt all partnerships and funding arrangements with groups affiliated with Jamaat its domestic affiliates, including the Islamic Circle of North America, ICNA Relief, Helping Hand for Relief and Development, and the Muslim Ummah of North America.

The resolution identified Jamaat as a patroniser of terrorist and jihadi activities in South Asian region for quite some time now.

It also called on all US agencies to halt all partnerships and funding arrangements with groups affiliated with Jamaat its domestic affiliates, including the Islamic Circle of North America, ICNA Relief, Helping Hand for Relief and Development, and the Muslim Ummah of North America.

It will be shot down by Dems as it is a ridiculous resolution.

Those days have passed. There were turmoil like situation from 2013-2015 when jamatis were doing arson terrorism with petrol bomb by the direct order of Khaleda Zia, backed by the money of Tareq Rahman .

Now they are already screwed up.

You know few about Bangladesh. Both of the groups are minority in Bangladesh. Majority of Bangladeshi peoples are tolerant and peace loving and they don't bother paying attention to those militant groups ( militant secular group and militant islamic group)

And besides the militant jamat never had more than 5% vote in Bangladesh. And now that is decreasing too.

Common peoples know that Islam and islamic militancy is two complete different things.

And now they know that parties like Jamat are not Islamic parties but militant party and they are not elevating Islam, but they are actually defaming it.

So those days have already passed when few peoples used to think ( mistakenly) that jamati types are serving Islam, now they are realising the truth that Jamat is actually defaming Islam by its militant nature, so islamic tablets are not going to work anymore.

She is testing the nerves of Islamists by hitting them Hard, and that another US Bill to curb the activities of Jamatis will make her more Unpopular (but who cares)

That's why the action will make her more popular, and no people will come to protest her if she decided to finish Jamat Islam, but peoples are going to welcome the decision!Just wait and observe.

Passing of Resolution by US seemz not an ordinary move, They always plan to make a Hit at most sensitive place. Do you think US and Indians are on-board to restraint Jamatis & coincidentally Hasina longing for same ??
We all know HOW selfish is US in disturbing the Denominators of the society and they always come-up clean...

I was reading an article on Weekly Blitz some days back claiming that a faction of Jamaat is reorganizing under a different brand to shed its anti-liberation stigma and the whole episode of Bar. Abdur Razzaq's resignation is part of the process. The new political party would be conservative nationalist in nature, modeled after Erdogan's AKP and could also include like-minded leaders from BNP.

Though Blitz is only known for its sensationalist yellow journalism but this story seems to have some element of truth since rumours about this new political party has been in existence for some time now. If true it could be a new turning point in Bangladeshi politics.

Great news.

The sooner we get rid of War criminal jamati party from our country, the better it is for us.

Having says that, USA's concern means little to noting to us in this regard. We'll get rid of them if we deem it necessary. USA should stop showing their concern about our internal matters.
