nowhere in the article posted does it say that the antiship missiles are effective, in fact its questioning how effective they are due to their lack of observed testing in their intended environment. Misleading title is misleading.

but if they change the title to "Chinese missile is of questionable effectiveness aginst our mighty navy" then the big bad communist don't seem as terrifying and the navy wouldnt get more funds

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but there are rumors on CD that they are test firing the ASBM against an old tracking vessel, Yuanwang 4. Yuanwang 4 was the same vessel that tracked Shenzou5, China's first manned spaceship.

Hitting moving targets at sea is going to be a challenge for the missile. Getting past the aegis system is going to be even harder. If the missile is based off the DF-21 then it has only one warhead right?? Even with the penetration aids I'm sure the aegis destroyers could deal with it. Now if this was Russia's Satan ICBM then this would be a completely different story and the US would have good reason to worry, as it's more than capable of overwhelming the aegis system.

satan has something like 10 mirv in a single missile, fire a few and the defence systen is overwhelmed, however as for the DF-21, it comes down at mach 10 too much for aegis to handle with confidence at the moment
