US moving towards technology sharing with India: Pentagon

"We're moving well beyond purely defence trade with India, towards technology sharing and co-production,"

Have to see how much of these words are transformed into action in coming years.

This is even what even China has not offered to Pakistan.....:yahoo:

What are you saying? China has sold missiles to pakistan and allowed them to re-name and
re-paint them the way they want and claim them as their own! When will USA give us such
autonomy?

What has USA shared in terms of ToT so far

All i remember is denials of even Israeli systems that had American components.

True ...I still remember how they blocked the sale of ELTA 2052 AESA radar to India citing "it will undermine the sale of US-made systems on the international stage".

USA is an innovator not a copier, their tech is trend setting if one can say that. That cannot be said about China, and hence US has its terms and conditions.

However, with Indian defence needs it is better we get tech on our own through R&D, cant rely on anyone in these sensitive areas

Probably because their own systems were in the fray. No one will allow a competitor, in that particular case Saab, get an advantage using parts of your own technology when you have your own systems as competing offers. I don't believe that is a very relevant point. If the Americans didn't want Israel giving India high technology items, then Israel simply wouldn't have. The very fact that Israel has given India access to some high tech stuff is proof of an American acceptance of such a transfer. Surely, the more logical course then would be to directly benefit by working with India.

Rockets, jet fighters, nuclear bomb and even the design for their B2 Bombers, all German
F35B engine concept, Russian
Many missile, radar and avionic with help of the Israelis.

It's by far not all from them, but they further develop these base techs and designs, while China still is mainly copying 1 on 1. However, they have a very fast pace to learn and catch up and sooner or later they will be equal to the US as well.

What we need from the Americans is technology in the nuclear field, space, physics (applied and theoritical) and enhanced co-operation in areas of bio-technology through inter-university tie-ups. Missiles, rocket engines and all these are 'product' based co-operation. Like currently we are going to work with Israel very closely on irrigation. This has nothing to do with defence but can result in increased yield per acre.

Pure company based tie-ups with organisatons like DRDO will simply result in more bungling by DRDO. University based tie-ups wil increase our home grown intellectual capital over the next 50 years and provide suitable opportunities in India for our talent. Also, this will let our students experiment themselves and come up with our own intellectual property.

THE NUCLEAR BOMB ????

THE NUCLEAR BOMB ????

Nothing to get shocked mate, it is no secret that Germans were working on Nuclear fission project which would have ultimately given them a nuclear bomb, many of the scientists working on the US Manhattan project were in fact German Jews, who were forced to leave there country & seek asylum in US, Not to forget Albert Einstein, who wrote letters to the US President, requesting to go for nuclear bomb construction before the Nazi Germany do it.

The point is that if Germany had not shown hatred towards Jews on such a large scale, than it would have been the first country with a nuclear weapon & not US.

India and China should put their difference aside and share info in semi conductors, theoritical science and physics like Astronomy. Get uni to work together. Unite asians!

I am not talking about whose concept it was, they certainly take the lead on developing tech which then gets adopted world over. US does provide the means to develop the concept and hence my assertion of innovators.
