WASHINGTON: The US military has said Pakistani troops were the first to fire during the November 26 Salala attacks, and decided that no American service members will face disciplinary charges for last November’s Nato air strike that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers, The New York Times reported on Sunday.

A Pentagon investigation team claimed late last year that both US and Pakistani troops were responsible for the exchange of fire. According to the Pentagon report, Pakistani troops were the first to fire from the two border posts (which were incidentally not marked on the coalition maps), and continued to fire even after US forces tried to inform them that were shooting at allied troops. Pakistan has duly rejected these claims.

The US military launched a second inquiry to determine whether any American military personnel should be punished for the Mohmand Agency air strike. This recently completed review has reached a negative conclusion, the NYT claimed citing three unnamed military officials.

Officials said that the Americans fired in self-defence, and that any other mistakes were the result of battlefield confusion. “We found nothing criminally negligent on the part of any individual in our investigations of the incident,” the NYT quoted one senior US military official as saying.

Islamabad’s relations with Washington plummeted drastically following the killing of al-Qaeda founder Osama Bin Laden in a military operation carried out inside Pakistan but without Islamabad’s knowledge in May last year. Relations were further wounded after 24 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the November clash.

The Pakistani Parliament is scheduled to resume debate on Monday on a major review of relations with the United States, a debate that the Obama administration hopes will bring a resumption of full diplomatic relations and the reopening of Nato supply lines into Afghanistan through Pakistan. As part of the debate, Pakistani legislators have demanded an unconditional formal apology from the United States for the fatal air strike.

i think world need to show them their real face now, enough is enough....

.
when the family of the American rogue soldier is denying the charges against him, hat else do you expect.

.
now i have heard everything not surprised since i didnt expect them to kill those soldiers anyway where are all those people who were saying us will bring them to justice in court martial well they now called it self defence.... and us wants to create relations on this amazing

Question is not what US is gonna do...question is what pakistan is gonna do about it ? It would be incredible shame if pakistan allows the perpetrators to go unpunishable.

I agreed...but they can take a solid stand...I think to defuse the mistrust between Pakistan and US.. US should make Pakistan a partner in drone attacks which will give to it more acceptibility in the pakistan. So far it is counter productive.

Well you don't always have to reply overtly.

A unique kind of self defence that starts inside another country....interesting.

There is quite a possibility that the Pentagon investigation is correct and that the Pakistani troops would have fired first and US troops later retialiating. Given past experience, Pakstani military troops are known to be cockey and can indulge in adventurism. Or possibly they could have been told to fire to protect the bogies that they could have been protecting (the ones that the ISAF were chasing).

Anyhow, that was then. Now is different situation. Point is what will be the reaction of Pakistan and in which direction will Kiyani point things now politically and militarily.

It's like robber brakes into a house and kills the residents and claims that he done it in self-defense and judge says that it's residents fault why they didn't let robbers to do whatever he wanted.

PATHETIC

now it will be interesting to see what & how Pakistani establishment responds to it , verbaly we all know they will condem it but how are they going to react ...its like between devil & deep sea situation for them because if they simply ask US to pack its bags & wont allow supply routes to be used by US & NATO them they will loose US support for IMF loans & other military hardware but if they dont budge to the popular anty US sentiment & let drones opparate & open supply line then they will loose whatever credibility & love left for them in the eyes of Pakistani Public ....next 2 -3 weeks would be really very interesting to watch

that will be disappointing for trolls to be honest

a detailed report was published by the army and there not going to be any more versions to it.
both parties have differing conclusions to the chains of events that led to the incident.

and that is that
