Marine Corps officers received a challenge to come up with a “disrupter” or “game changer” to alter the typical plans presented in public forums to penetrate the defenses of a countries such as China, Iran or even Syria. Lt. Gen. Richard Mills, commander of Marine Corps Combat Development Command, wants his Marines to become “party crashers.”

Looks like Navy is afraid of China's ASBM destroying their precious carriers. Air Force is afraid of J-20 shooting down their precious J-20. Army, well, they saw PLA coming at them in Korea and never looked back since. Now those steroid neanderthal Marines want to threaten China with an amphibious invasion.

USA is getting frustrated

Doesn't hurt to read the article once in a while it talked about war games and how to over come enemy defenses, for countries such as Iran, Syria and China. I didn't get where it threatened to invade China???

You have a point there, but normally such exercises are conducted for reality based operations. Even the list of Iran and Syria gives you enough of direction. Previously it used to be USSR. So do the maths :azn:

It was done by a Retired Rear Admiral and they used Google Image as resources. Even with the USSR, US never went to war. Even India has war games with countries such as Russia, France, US and Indonesia does it mean we are practicing to invade a country.

This red herring let lose by the USMC is a way to justify their mind boggling budget. Spin a yarn however hare brained that the Congressional Committee will fall for and you have those billions of dollars pouring in!

Elementary, Dr Watson!! :azn:

Cheers!

This doesn't mean anything, it is routine. The Pentagon hires a bunch of young minds, like many enthusiasts in this forum, to search all kind of scenarios and prepare for the inevitable.

It was more a thinking challenge for the young officers to see how quick they can react to new scenario. So far the war in the Middle East is much different to a war in Pacific where the whole geography is different.

Do you really think nuclear armed countries with capability to hit each other are stupid enough to go to war. Even with the USSR both countries were quick to cool the pressure because they knew of the consequences of a war. Even the article clearly stated that it was a training exercise for the officers to get them thinking of ways to overcome the challenges if they have to go into different geographical area. Having war games means you are preparing in case of the worst.

While its expected US prepares plans for any opposing country, but plans against China are so far away from possibility, even talking about this is ridiculous. The most US can do about it is to brain storm "what if", it will never be executed.

Iraq War was one of the war games that the US prepared well in a sense. They even had agents (Iraqis) in-placed in advance to put electronic emitters on crucial targets for their missiles.

But one thing they miscalculated badly. They misjudged the Iraqi people. They used the Korean War as a guide where the Koreans lined up to well come the American soldiers with flowers and smiles. But this time in Iraq, all these saviors got were stones, bullets and looks of hatred.

Human factors are hard to prepare in wars.
