The fact is that women are generally horrible drivers. Just say it as it is and stop with all those dramatic statements about rape etc. The women I know on average are just generally bad and obnoxious drivers who believe that the motor vehicle which they control are weapons which they can launch at anybody who ticks them off on the roads.

Let me correct you: women 're dangerous drivers.
At higher speeds women tend to cause more accidents albeit I still think most of the women follow every rule in the book while driving, so they're not "bad" drivers.

Most of the women I know regard the rules of the road as applicable only to male drivers. Point in example is my wife. The woman seems to be in some competition to earn the most number of traffic tickets in Southern Africa and New Delhi !

Btw I drive in India too, so I'm sure thats not the case.

His apparent solution is quite stupid. Having foreign women as drivers will not save the Saudi women being driven nor their chauffeur-es from rape. The existing solution is to be driven by a close relative, the brother or the father.
Banning women from driving in Saudi Arabia is a unique case in Muslim countries. One should not see it as a general Muslim decision but as a special case in the most sacrosanct Muslim land. Although in my opinion the ban should be restricted only in the Areas of the sacred cities. But Saudis have all the rights to decide for their land. There are so many awkward laws in other lands that can be invoked as well, but we never hear about them. Still, laws, ethics and regulations are products of the social fabrics and derived from general agreement of a group or society. So no one should judge other peoples laws when he does not belong to that group or society.
Saudi women can ask for reserved roads, highway paths and parking's for women as a solution, like those bicycle paths you find in major American cities.
I am for men being educated enough in self respect, self-control and respect of women, Mostly for a Muslim man in a Muslim society, as well as women. But alas that is not the case. I have just seen a video of a woman filmed in a Muslim country in a 10 hour walk in popular streets and getting more than 300 open and annoying male advances or comments!
I have also seen videos of Khaliji Girls dancing and singing in a car in a very provocative way with their hormones almost jumping out of the computer screen from thousands of miles away!!! while being driven by someone.
In brief, there are no easy solutions to these social problems, and they should be tackled by their own population through education...mostly.
