WASHINGTON: The US Defence Security Cooperation Agency has issued a certification saying that it’s in US national interest to sell eight F-16 fighter jets and related equipment to Pakistan.

The certification is needed to satisfy the US Congress where some key lawmakers are strongly opposing the sale. A national interest certification, however, is rarely challenged.

“This proposed sale contributes to US foreign policy objectives and national security goals by helping to improve the security of a strategic partner in South Asia,” says the certification sent to Congress with the sale notification.

“The proposed sale improves Pakistan’s capability to meet current and future security threats…and enhance(s) Pakistan’s ability to conduct counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations,” the agency informs the lawmakers.

It also clarifies that the proposed sale will not alter the basic military balance in the region (and) there will be no adverse impact on US defence readiness as a result of this.

The clarification rejects India’s claim that the proposed sale will alter military balance in South Asia and it also disregards objections raised during recent congressional debates that it will adversely affect US defence interests in Afghanistan where Washington still has thousands of troops.

According to the US Defence Security Cooperation Agency, the eight F-16 fighter jets and related equipment will cost Pakistan $699.04 million.

On Tuesday, Secretary of State John Kerry sent his department’s annual budget to Congress, proposing a financial assistance of $859.8m for Pakistan, which includes $265m for military hardware. This indicates that Pakistan will have to bear most of the costs for the F-16 deal.

On Friday, the US State Department informed Congress that it “has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Pakistan for F-16 Block 52 Aircraft, equipment, training, and logistics support.

Remember . Pakistan getting all these goodies due to Gen Raheel assertive policy against terrorism.

Raheel is getting these 'goodies' because as the Turks discovered when one of their F-16's crashed, Uncle Sam has placed a tracking beacon in every F-16--even those supplied to NATO allies!

Of course it also helps Uncle Sam to maintain some control over Pakistan's defense policies, because the alternative was Uncle Sam having much less influence on Pakistan if it had decided to buy Chinese.

Ask Raheel if they're willing to supply some F-15's of the same kind as supplied to Saudi Arabia?

Of course now that the two Sharif's aka Laurel & Hardy have destroyed Pakistan's relationship with practically the entire Islamic world, they should look elsewhere for economic and diplomatic support in the future...as well as all the FREE training Pakistani pilots used to enjoy at Saudi Arabian and UAE expense in the latest fighter aircraft.

But at least Pakistani Shiites are happy that their Chachas in Iran are becoming more powerful by the day! That's all that matters. The welfare of the Iran. :tsk:

do you know how much the F-15SA costs?? you couldn't afford it even if we was willing to sell it.

why doesn't Pakistan buy J-16s from China?? or even J-10Bs??

Well how else would the children of Pakistan's Generals and politicians get to party in the USA, on the pretense of going to study at the expense of the children of poor Pakistani villagers?

wow for 8 fighters They have to issue a certification ,then the opposition to the sale must be really strong.

Exactly...:P

Brother seems to be overworked, and should get some rest. :D

I thought the reason the order was for eight so it would not face opposition in Congress. Otherwise, why not order 16 or 24?

I also initially thought it was a sale, that Pakistan is paying for the jets themselves. Now I hear US is paying for, or subsidizing, it. This also explains the small order and much Congress opposition.

Well, US knows what's best in US interest. No matter, how they look at Pakistan, it's one of the countries where US pays more attention because of its geographical position. It's the door way to Persian Gulf. A country that borders, Afghanistan, Iran, China and central Asia. So, ignoring the key strategic position of such country is plain foolish.
US. Policy makers understand that. Because of Pakistan's geographical location they need our country on there side. As long about India. It's just regular rant......simple. And what 8 more planes would do in anyway to our country which already has more than 75 upgraded or recently acquired block 52s...?. That's beside our own JF thunder. It's just a tap on the shoulder to just make sure we don't move away and end up making a block with Russia and China.

pakistan will grab all possible military hardware from US till their presence in afghanistan then we move on to chinese mean while their technology in jetfighters will become on par with the west

You don't call out Shiites and chachas on PDF like this. You will get temporary banned cuz some moderators simply can't handle the truth and gets easily butt-hurt. 90% of Pakistanis i met, who are working for western Intel agencies in any capacity for Af-Pak theater are Shia's; Cuz, they are doing religious duty by help killing hardcore Sunni. Just like Ayatollah sanctioned Iran's covert help to US in gathering human Intelligence (HUMINT) and target accusations before Iraq war despite all the hatred for the US. Apparently, their hatred for Sunnis exceeded that for Americans.
