US interested in dragging China into India-Pakistan row – scholar to RT

In order to divert Beijing’s attention from the Pacific, Washington would like China entangled in the Indo-Pakistani confrontation, one analyst tells RT. The row between bitter rivals escalated after Indian jets bombed Pakistan.
“The US is interested to have China get involved in a maximum number of conflicts,” Aleksey Kupriyanov, a researcher at the Moscow-based Institute of World Economy and International Relations, told RT.

It will divert Beijing from building up its forces in the Pacific Ocean. Any conflict would slow down Chinese economic growth, which would mean less danger for the US’ hegemony in the Pacific.

Tensions between India and Pakistan flared up dramatically on Tuesday, after New Delhi sent a dozen of fighter jets to strike what it said were terrorist camps on Pakistani soil. The officials in Islamabad said that the raid failed to produce any damage on the ground and vowed“an appropriate response” to “misadventures” on the border with India.

Beijing responded by urging its neighbors to show restraint and do more to improve bilateral relations. China seeks good ties with both parties and is therefore not in a position to pick sides, Kupriyanov explained.

“China wouldn’t want to cut ties with its old ally Pakistan,” he said. “At the same time, it wouldn’t be interested in any confrontation with India who the Chinese see as an important trade partner.”

Beijing doesn’t want to push India into the arms of the US who wishes to turn the nation into a bulwark against China.

This motivates China to assist the sides in reaching a peaceful solution to the conflict, he said.

Washington has attempted to court India since 2016, signing multiple military cooperation deals and renaming its Pacific Command to “Indo-Pacific” in 2018.

Open support would be unwise but access to higher tier weapons with low or no interest loans would be a win win for both sides. This recent battle is not with China's latest aircraft, missiles, or radar. We should definitely see what Pakistan can do with more advanced gear aka J 10C with pl 10s and pl 15s. Not the absolute top of China's inventory but should be more than enough considering results with less advanced gear.

Its going to be hard for China to openly support war for Pakistan vs India at this point. Free or cheap weapons delivered asap are both countries best option. Words won't help anyways.

Loans, nothing free. Free just encourages indolence and sloth.

There's an export variant of the J-10C:

Pakistan is more than welcome to buy it whenever it feels like upgrading from its antique F-16s. In any case, it wouldn't help much in this war since Pakistan would need time to familiarize itself with a new system.

Not going to work. If China were inclined to take the bait and get embroiled in a Pak-India tussle, then it would continue to focus on the army. But in reality, we are halving the size of our army and completely redirecting our focus on the navy and air force:

We only have a single enemy. Every other apparent enemy, we will negotiate with and eventually resolve any disputes. But there remains one single enemy with whom we cannot be reconciled. We cannot have peaceful co-existence with them, so once our economy is massive enough and our society is purified and disciplined enough and once our air force and navy are upgraded enough, we shall exterminate them.

China has so much investment in Pakistan and if a full scale war broke out Pakistan may be damaged more due to it smaller size and resources, China doesn't want to see that happen so China calls restraint, US love to see this mess getting worse and out of control, Pakistan should not take this bait.

China is a country always thinking about the big picture, if two countries went to a full scale war, what the chance for Pakistan to have a clear win? If the chance is not very big, that will drag already troubled Pakistan's economy into a big recession, US and India want to see that but China doesn't. It's very understandable that China wants to quickly de ecsalates the situation, it's just not the right time to do this.

Pakistan doesn't need anyone else's involvement to teach India. India's friends will get involved soon to save India, and get new Orders from India, this time India will buy anything, everything.
