China is still making the same amount even with the tariffs, the American consumers just end up paying more. The tariffs were mean to make Chinese goods less competitive but it didn’t stop America from importing from China at all. It was pretty much an own goal scored on the American consumer.

The real goal of the tariffs is to tilt the US markets just a little bit towards benefiting and creating other suppliers. The process will happen slowly but will gather momentum. That is why you see Chinses hysteria like in this thread calling it a stupid act simply because they know they are being hurt by it, and no bother from the American consumers.
