KARACHI: Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Zubair Mahmood Hayat said the United States has now realised mistakes made in Afghanistan.

These remarks were expressed by the CJCSC at the conference organised by Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) in collaboration with Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Center for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) Karachi.

The conference was attended by students of various universities of Karachi as well as academia, intelligentsia, former civil and military officers.

General Zubair that every nation makes mistakes and learns from them as the US made mistakes in Afghanistan and now realised that solution to Afghan problem lies in political reconciliation.

In his key note address, General Zubair said that the treatment meted out in India to the minorities, especially the Muslims, clearly justifies the creation of Pakistan in 1947 as our forefathers under the able leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah exactly foreseen the Muslims of sub-continent were likely to face.

He further said that two-nation theory explaining Muslims and Hindus being two separate nations was first adopted by Al-Biruni in some 900 years back who in his book said that this part of the world was inhabited by two separate nations Hindus and Muslims.

He said that creation of Pakistan was not only the result of tireless efforts of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah but the valuable contributions made by common people.

He said that we are the custodians of some of the world’s oldest civilizations and there is no power on earth which can undo Pakistan.

Things have gone great for Pakistan these past few years. Terrorism declining significantly every year. Can’t say the same thing about Afghanistan where the regime in Kabul is shitting its pants wondering whether they’ll remain relevant or not. The federation has only gotten stronger.

So there is no Pakistan left now? I was hoping to atleast visit end of this year... can we please move to Afghanistan now?

He is just venting bcz he was shown a few realities in another thread... Its difficult to continuously stay in an imaginative world. Thus we see rubbish like " Pakistan is undone already" ... The people of Afghanistan have no other option but to live in a dream world since the reality of their country is simply too harsh and too dark to confront head one yet it is this unrealistic attitude that has prolonged their suffering...

US realizes because other major players of the world are going up & challenging hegemony, so after losing trillions, taxpayer money, US realization is must for US own superiority not for humanity.

Otherwise Go ahead & waste more time in Afghanistan, who cares? & in the mean while Russia & China will be more strengthened. This is what happened in 18 years.

USA is still mistaking by feeding & betting on ungrateful nation in south Asia (India). But as usual they will realize when everything will be uncontrollable.

Sincere Suggestion for US, don't mess with Russia, Chia & Pakistan instead make them friends.

Yeah, FIRST mistake...attacking Afghanistan! :hitwall:
The Taliban were refusing to hand over AQ - what do you propose should have been done?

A polite way to tell THAT USA LOST.
The US won the conventional war in the beginning (not really a surprise) - they lost/drew the longer term COIN campaign.

Of course one could argue that the COIN campaign was always going to end through a political solution (as VCheng pointed out), and creating the conditions for a political solution required all parties to arrive at a military stalemate, which is where the US & Taliban are at currently.

One could also argue that the US goal in Afghanistan was to prevent the use of Afghanistan by terrorist groups, which, given what we know about the talks so far, is a condition the Taliban are willing to accept. So therefore, while it has cost a lot of blood and treasure, the US might be able to end its involvement in Afghanistan with the accomplishment of the goal stated above.

Now, could that goal have been realised without the invasion of Afghanistan? I don’t know. The Taliban were, IIRC, amenable to a trial of AQ locally and I believe in a mutually agreed upon third country. Perhaps those options should have been fully explored before the use of military force.
