Ambassador Miller discusses promotion of US educational and cultural exchanges, economic engagement and law enforcement cooperation in the region
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller has found similarities between the USA's Michigan state and Rajshahi city.

The ambassador revealed this while talking to journalists after making a courtesy call on Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton at the latter’s office on Thursday.
In the meeting, Ambassador Miller discussed promotion of the US educational and cultural exchanges, economic engagement and law enforcement cooperation in the region.

“We have seen many similarities between Michigan and Rajshahi and there are ample scopes of importing and exporting many goods,” he added.

He said Bangladesh is now one of the two top-ranking countries in the world that are sending university students to the USA for post-graduation, PhD and hard science degrees. That is why importance has been given on how to send more Bangladeshi students to the US and the US students can come to Bangladesh.

“Attention has also been given on how to secure additional investment for studies of the faculties and teachers under the sister series program,” Miller said.

Later, the US ambassador attended the opening ceremony of Student Leadership Development Workshops hosted by the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) in association with the US Embassy at Hotel Warisan in Rajshahi city.

He also visited the Victim Support Centre at RMP Headquarters to see for himself its activities.

Nice but less sending students overseas, they should study in BD and not think western institutions will do them any better or give them some kind of advantage.

My real qualm however is we don't need BD to be known as a nation where students leave to study overseas.

Brain drains will continue to happen in the foreseeable future as Western Education is still cherished by most.

The same rule applies here that applies in BD, all about who you know. Also many international students are falling into bad crowds per my experience.

There are some countries that are known for sending overseas students, it's an awkward representation of name country.

BD should sway from this kind of association.
