This visit is an attempt to formalize an OTH agreement. US has called Pakistan’s bluff basically arguing that any improvement in relations will come through an acceptable agreement with Pakistan on OTH and intelligence matters. They have made it clear that if an acceptable agreement is not reached US will not be interested in furthering any other discussions. Pakistan which had earlier stated and positioned the notion that all elements of the relationship must be discussed is being forced through a sequential step process. Nothing has changed in US / Pak relations. The fact that Pakistan is allowing this visit seems to indicate that Pakistan has blinked. Here comes the US for its pound of flesh.

The US is playing good cop, bad cop. The core of Pak-US relations will be Afghanistan. The US wants an air corridor into Afghanistan for counter-terrorism. I’m sure the same is being discussed in Doha with the Taliban.

Exactly there is breakthrough in negotiations and he is coming to make things formal as DOD said in senate hearings negotiations are ongoing with Pakistan I hope this time it will be win win for everyone
