Omar’s visit probably works against you than for you — especially the red-carpet ‘head of state’ style reception you guys have going on there. She’s really divisive and there’s not a lot of traction for her views. Her relevance is often overstated.

This will change slowly with the new pakistani administration I’m sure. They don’t realise it yet, but the change of power is probably among the few good things that happened to Pakistan in the recent past.

Here you have a US Congresswoman, who is not only a Muslim, a person of color, but possibly sympathetic to Pakistan (a rare commodity these days), yet is treated as some of a trojan horse for neocons.

It's fashionable on this forum to be a contrarian and downplay any positive news for Pakistan.

She is part of The Squad in Congress, along with AOC and other progressives who are a welcome breath of fresh air in terms of Israel and Islamophobia. Will she change US foreign policy in a significant way? Unlikely in the short term, given the entrenched pro-Israeli, anti-Islam narrative in the US, but she and her colleagues have visibility in the US media and can help shape public opinion.

We really need to stop being so cynical about everything.
