Washington: India, which is one of the top donors for Afghanistan post 9/11, is poised to play a very important role as the international community prepares to withdraw troops from this war-torn country, a top American commander has told lawmakers.

Testifying before a Congressional Committee, General John Allen, Commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan told lawmakers on Tuesday that India is not only a major economic donor but also has offered to support the development of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF).

"The Indian government, ... with whom we have very strong relations, appears to be poised ultimately not just to have a substantial economic interest, perhaps even eclipsing the Chinese interest... but also has long-term ties, very healthy and friendly ties with Afghanistan and, in fact, is offering to support the development of the Afghan National Security Forces," Allen said in response to a question.

They like to show their presence in the 4 consulates and 9 "information centers" - whatever they are. I reckon thats one for every Indian in Afghanistan. These indians love to look after their citizensin a very special way. Emmie you know brother Afghanistan is the hub of tourism for Indians. :azn:

Let's keep in mind that these are the same people who announced "Mission Accomplished" in Iraq and Afghanistan -- just a tad prematurely!

Prognostication is not their forte.

We are all fully aware of Indias intent - If it was humanitarian and wanting to assist in aiding Afghanistanis then im sure all would welcome any moves offered by them. I believe their intent is non humanitarian and serves only one purpose and thats to create mischief. They seem to festering on getting involved as if its a priority in their calender. The obsession grows deeper and even more obvious.

You are right about J & G, but screwed up on next 2 letters.. Its Jai Hind..

And for once try living in present.. Stop making hawaii quillas for the time when uncle Sam will leave Afghanistan and the good terrorists on the payroll of ISI will establish Pakistan's writ in Afghanistan. Thats never going to happen dude.. And even if it does, do remember what happened when that story played itself out in Afghanistan. 8 years after Taliban won Kabul, they were ousted and the worst time in the history of Pakistan began. May be you want a re run of that.. Am sure no sane citizen of Pakistan would want it though..

Always amusing to see Pakistanis getting excited about chaos on their western front!

Now thats how smart people learn from the past.

At topic - India has learnt from the past and does not want taliban back, hence we are fully committed to support the Afghan government. The universally recognised Afghan government is fully supportive of India's role too. We do not want more kandahar highjackings, 9/11s etc. I'm sure the Afghans do not want ot be shot in football stadiums and their cultural heritage destroyed by sub-human taliban. Surely Pakistanis do not want sub-human taliban to rule Afghanistan, I take it thats the case as most Pakistanis do not want Taliban to rule Pakistan. Surely Pakistanis can not be complete hypocrites to wish something so horrible on the muslim afghan brothers, particularly since they do not want it themselves?

Any Pakistanis who wish Taliban on Afghans deserve to live under Taliban too. Thats only fair. Infact the noble thing would be to create a successful example of benevolent taliban rule in pakistan first. Then the Afghanis will willingly join this grand experiment second only to the creation of pakistan.
