The Pentagon said it would no longer tolerate Pakistan's "lack of actions" when it comes to dealing with militant groups. The latest decision to strip funds comes ahead of a high level visit to the country.

The United States confirmed on Saturday it was canceling its so-called Coalition Support Funds (CDF) package for Pakistan, due to Islamabad's perceived failure to act against militant groups in the country.

The Pentagon's decision to scrap the $300 million package comes after the Trump administration said at the beginning of the year that it was suspending aid payments to Pakistan due to its supposed "lies and deceit."

The US has long been pushing Pakistan to crack down on terrorist groups and militant safe havens in the country. However, on Saturday Lieutenant Colonel Kone Faulkner of the Pentagon said America was cutting aid in response to Islamabad's lack of "decisive actions."

"Due to a lack of Pakistani decisive actions in support of the South Asia Strategy the remaining $300 million (€260 million) was reprogrammed ... for other urgent priorities," Faulkner said in a statement.

The Defense Department "is awaiting congressional determination on whether this reprogramming request will be approved or denied," Faulkner added.

PAKISTAN: A DECADE OF DEADLY TERRORIST ATTACKS
2007 - Twin blasts rock Karachi on former PM’s return
Two bomb blasts struck former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s motorcade on October 18, 2007 in the southern port city of Karachi. Bhutto was returning to Pakistan after almost eight years. The attack left 139 people dead. Bhutto, the first democratically elected female head of an Islamic country, died in an attack two months later, on December 27 in the northern city of Rawalpindi.
American suspicions

Although Pakistan has fought a number of bloody campaigns against Islamist militants on its home soil, Washington has long accused it of ignoring or even collaborating with terror groups that attack Afghanistan from supposed safe havens.

The White House has openly stated that it believes Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence agency has been funding the Taliban, both for ideological reasons and in a bid to counter India's rising influence in Afghanistan.

Those fears prompted former US President Barack Obama to authorize a spate of drone strikestargeting supposed safe havens in Pakistan. Obama also sent US commandos in Pakistan to kill al Qaida leader and 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden in his hideout in Abbottabad.

Pakistan has always denied ever officially granting safe havens to any insurgent group waging war against US troops in the region.

Relationships continue to deteriorate

Saturday's announcement marks the latest deterioration in ties between Washington and Islamabad. Faulkner pointed out that Congress had already stripped some $500 million in CDF from Pakistan earlier this year, bringing the total amount of withheld funds to $800 million.

Tensions between the two sides have only heightened on the back of Imran Khan's election as Pakistan's new prime minister in July. Khan has long opposed the US' open-ended presence in neighboring Afghanistan. In his victory speech, he indicated that he would seek "mutually beneficial" relations with Washington.

The Pentagon's disclosure comes ahead of a planned visit by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and top US military officer Joseph Dunford to the Islamabad next week. Continuing the fight against regional militants should remain the "primary part of the discussion." Pompeo told reporters early last week.

Pakistan has received some $33 billion in US aid since 2002, some $14 billion of which has reportedly gone towards reimbursing costs incurred by Pakistan in its support of the US-led counter insurgency in Afghanistan.

like we care?
US's nuisance will no longer be tolerated.

.
I'm afraid evil US won't stop here. The next step maybe putting sanctions on Pakistan.

.
Thank you USA - We are tired of fighting your wars. Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey all needs peace in the region.
No made in USA governments will be accepted anymore by regional people.
Leave us alone, we are happy without you ... thank you again.

even with sanctions i don't think that China could be stopped and with world's biggest trade power and future super power on our side will still make us strong and what it will do is to unite the anti-USA countries which will pose a threat to US.

We lost our political leaders in war against terrorism, we lost 65+ billions dollers in this war, still we are fighting. We lost thousands of soldier in this war. U.S.A should not neglect our sacrifices on war against terrorism.
U.S.A is not doing enough in Afganistan against taliban. U.S.A has

lost war against taliban & alqaida, they want escape route and he want to blame others for failures in afganistan .

the failure is that Pakistan still stands.

Perception is everything.
It's a result of many years of misleading world nations using media.... and naturally with support of Pakistan foreign office.
All foreign office staff from Zardari time should be charged for treason.

First, how about we scrap the Pompeo visit all together for a starter? What is there left to talk after so much mistrust, hate and suspicion? The talks haven't even begun and this is how the Americans believe to improve ties LOL Let's be frank here folks. These relations are beyond repair from every perspective you look. America is a hostile country. It doesn't appreciate Pakistani sacrifices in their war. On the contrary, the Americans continue to ridicule Pakistani sacrifices and increase hostility. There is zero common ground on almost any issue.

Secondly, shut the embassy in the US and sent the American embassy packing back to the US. You wonder why the Americans are building a massive embassy in a country it hates and accuses of all sorts. Is it to openly spy and spread unrest?

Thirdly, halt all form of cooperation in Afghanistan. Shut the supply routes and intelligence sharing. Continue to fence the border and mass repatriate Afghans. Pakistan has bled for these American pigs. We lost tens of thousands of innocent lives and our economy has suffered immensely.

Continue to cooperate very closely with regional nations such as China, Iran, Russia and all other friendly nations around the world. Increase trade and defence ties and shun these American cvnts. The US are a hateful bunch and a laughing stock of the whole world. They seperate children from parents, build walls and want to ban immigrants and Muslims. Their entire foundation is based on hate. There can be no common ground with a KKK government of the USA.

We can be rest assured at this point that the US will only intensify this trend of bullying. There is nothing to reason here. There is nothing to talk.

We have the right man in office. Imran Khan needs to take a bold step and look these bullies straight in the eyes. Yes, the Americans will continue to hurt Pakistan in all possible ways, but that has been their intention all along. Enough of this hypocrisy. Time has come to call a spade a spade and face the reality. Ditch these American pigs and chart out a new independent course. Naya Pakistan should also mean a new foreign policy.

That is obvious...!
If you don’t tow the US line then they will bring down the hammer.

It hasn't got them anywhere. 17 years onwards and the Americans continue to play the blame game. Guess what, they can sanction Pakistan all day long. The war in Afghanistan has been lost long ago.

What do you think FATF blacklist is about? EU sanctions could follow too.
https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com...e-related-activities/articleshow/65636549.cms

I am sure they will follow. What will they do after that? Brandish Pakistan a terrorist state? Haven't they already done that? Eventually the Americans will have played out all their cards.

The thing is that America has limited options when it comes to Pakistan. Apart from sanction blackmail it cannot do much. If it thinks of a military misadventure things will get seriously out of hand and we all know what the outcome will be.

Let's face it the US has lost in Afghanistan. As long as the US doesn't accept defeat it will continue to languish in Afghanistan for an eternity.

To be honest American options against Pakistan in theory might as brutal as "we will bomb you to stone age" [which was used against Musharaf" to some form of sanctions. But it is not as clear as that. In practice lot of it depends on Pakistan. If Pakistan has leadar with backbone and enjoys widespead support as PM Imran Khan does the country is no push over.

In practice bombing a nuclear country might be easy but the price US might pay for such action could be significant. Much more then what US has got used to in Iraq, Afghanistan etc. The consequences would spread out far and wide. Europe, most of Asia would oppose such a move. Even a superpower can 'outstretch' itself and as it is involved already in Afghanistan, Iraq, facing bullish Russia, trade war with China and also tangled with Iran the American's real options are limited. Even if they did win a ruined Pakistan would be a nightmare for decades and would make Afghanistan look like kindergarten country. Would USA be prepared to send over millon soldiers to prevent a unstable Pakistan becoming a full on sanctuary for jihadi groups like Afghanistan was before 2001?

I doubt it. What is needed is cool, determinded leader in Islamabad to stare at the US and not blink. And we have that in PM Imran Khan. When faced with that reality US will climb down a peg or two and be more reasonable.
