Good for BD. IIRC the dorniers NGs have quite a few components made by HAL and then delivered to RUAG
Btw wats with the hate for BD navy? One can always aspire to operate the best in business.
My sentiments exactly. IMHO the P-8 is not at all well suited to patrol the Bangladesh EEZ, too fast and too much range. Bangladesh' EEZ area is minusucle compared to the huge long coastline India needs to patrol. so the P-8 is overkill for Bangladesh.
I have concluded after much thought and research that at maximum something the size of a small turboprop like the CASA IPTN (Nusantara) C-295 is very appropriate for Bangladesh...
(or a much more modern & capable design such as the EMBRAER P-99 MPA - given funds availability)
These have more than sufficient range and capability given the small EEZ area Bangladesh has.
It wasn't very long ago (at all) when the Do-228s and antiquated IL-38s filled India's MPA role. Looks familiar?
Bangladesh' Do-228's have more modern turboprops (longer range) but nothing wrong with playing it safe and testing the waters with an established platform. Eventually - something more modern will be inducted.
Pakistan Navy has operated long range dedicated MPA platforms like P-3s (as seen below) and Dassault Breguet Atlantiques
PN now operates the much smaller ATR-72 to replace the shorter-range Fokker F-27 MPA's that were in service with PN.
The ATR's above are 9 year old passenger platforms from Spain converted to Naval use - and may have been fitted with ASW and electronics after the fact. Maybe @Penguin sahab can shed some light on the reason why the shorter range ATR-72 MPA was picked recently over replacing larger P-3 patrol versions. But Pakistan's patrol area and EEZ maybe larger too.
That follows with the thought that maybe Bangladesh can also convert some 10 year old passenger turboprops like these to ASW and MPA usage at relatively reasonable cost.
