The US and Bangladesh air forces will engage in joint tactical airlift exercise in Dhaka from Saturday.
About 80 US airmen will join 200 Bangladesh airmen in the fourth of its kind week-long exercise known as ‘Cope South 15’.
The US side will bring three C-130H Hercules aircraft from its air base in Japan’s Yokota.
C-130H is the upgraded version of the C-130 aircraft that conducts strategic and tactical air transport tasks including the deployment and transportation of personnel and equipment.
Bangladesh will also deploy one C-130 aircraft for the exercise at the BAF Base Bangabandhu, Kurmitola.
The US embassy in Dhaka says the exercise will further strengthen the relations between the two forces.
“The relationships built and sustained through these types of exercises, civil military operations and military exchanges help the United States and Bangladesh in humanitarian efforts and in preserving peace and stability in the region,” the embassy said in a media release.
They will exchange airlift, air-land and airdrop delivery tactics, techniques and procedures, as well as develop and expand combined airlift capabilities.
Participants will also conduct cooperative flight operations.
Aircraft generation and recovery, day and night low-level navigation, tactical airdrop, and air-land missions as well as subject-matter expert exchanges in the operations, maintenance and rigging disciplines will be the highlights of the exercise.
The exercise will end on Jan 30.
