In this clip, This US Army sniper of the 25th Infantry Division is engaging in harassing fire, to prevent the enemy from (possibly) assembling for an evening assault on their fixed positions, on their high ground. He is firing .50 Cal rounds beyond the rifles maximum effective range, onto a finger, across a river valley, forcing the enemy to take cover.

Probably less then a Taliban Suicide Bomber or a Crazy *** sectarian Mullah in Pakistan at any given time .

They need to suppress them. Otherwise they will assemble for an attack. But at that target range, it just prevents their assembly
