In reality No. While it might have been the case pre '11, things have changed. As of now the targets are sighted by Pakistanis for the most case. We got our guy and now the leftovers aren't enticing enough to piss off Pakistan.

I agree there is some difference in interpretation of value of threats, understandably Pakistan has different priority list than US but since our strategy in Afghanistan has changed more towards reconciliation than elimination we need a mediator to bring in the concerned parties to table and unsanctioned drone attacks aren't going to help matters.

Think about it logically - What can we do? The political directive is to get out of Afghanistan ASAP but at the same time it calls for some sort of stability so as to not leave a power vacuum like in Iraq which can be filled with groups like ISIS. So we are working towards creating some kind of a political solution but that will only happen if Taliban are willing to talk. Unlike us they aren't going anywhere, giving a tough fight to Afghans & can wait out US, so they have the leverage here.

Understanding this - we approach the guys who have leverage on Taliban - That is Pakistan. Now who has leverage on Pakistan? - China. So we bring in China too. There you have it - China, Pakistan, US, Afghanistan and Taliban meeting and keeping everyone in check.

Now of-course Indians won't like it - as they are left out but that is just the way game is played my friend. So make peace with it.

Now Pacific Command is altogether another story...

I think PAF should order 4 SU35s and sit back with popcorns and let India spend that $$$ trying to stop the sale. Russian might give them for free after reciving the amount of $$ from India that it will spend on stopping the deal. If you look at the figures you will see it costed India alot in $$ lobbying.Follow it up with EF and Raflale. Add Russia in the equation too. They are worried about ISIS propagating into its underbelly. Central Asian states are vulnerable to this. Stumbling block however remains Iran. While ISIS may be a concern to them, their role remains dubious. They may like to play on Taliban-ISIS friction. It's all complicated.

its a heads we win tails you lose situation. I say that let america cancel the deal so that F 16 mafia may bite the dust and then we may procure J 16, Su 35 etc. series. Even, J 10 with AESA is a force to reckon with
