Pakistan is reopening NATO supply route: Clinton - geo.tv

WASHINGTON: Pakistan is reopening the vital NATO supply routes into Afghanistan closed since a deadly November attack, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Tuesday, after speaking with her Pakistani counterpart

"I am pleased that Foreign Minister (Hina Rabbani) Khar has informed me that the ground supply lines into Afghanistan are opening," Clinton said in a statement, adding "we are sorry for the losses suffered by the Pakistani military."

Earlier, Gen John Allen, the ISAF Commander in Afghanistan offered 'personal apology' to Pakistan's Army Chief, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani over the Nato forces' attack on Salala Check Post in November last year that killed two dozens Pakistani soldiers but Gen Kayani termed it as insufficient, according to BBC's Urdu website.

Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani made it clear to the visiting US official that the stand-of is not between the two forces but between two states and therefore only a state level resolution could be sought for the issue.

Pakistan opens Afghan supply line after US apology

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration says Pakistan is reopening supply lines into Afghanistan after the U.S. issued an apology for the November killing of 24 Pakistani troops in a NATO airstrike.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says she told Pakistan's foreign minister in a telephone conversation that the U.S. is "sorry for the losses suffered by the Pakistani military." She says both sides acknowledged mistakes that resulted in deaths.

The incident badly damaged already strained relations between the two countries and forced the U.S. and its allies to send supplies via costlier northern routes into Afghanistan.

Clinton said Khar informed her the Pakistani-Afghan supply lines are opening. She said Pakistan won't charge any transit fee, the subject of an earlier negotiation.

Pakistan finally came out of the dilemma with pride, The US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton called Pakistan's foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar and told her that the U.S. is sorry for the losses suffered by the Pakistani military.

As per news, Hilary held a telephonic conversation with Pakistani Foreign Minister and apologized for the Salala Attack mistake

"I offered our sincere condolences to the families of the Pakistani soldiers who lost their lives," Mrs Clinton said.

"Foreign Minister Khar and I acknowledged the mistakes that resulted in the loss of Pakistani military lives.

"We are sorry for the losses suffered by the Pakistani military. We are committed to working closely with Pakistan and Afghanistan to prevent this from ever happening again"

It is not about words, it is not about that we have scored some cheap points or this have comforted our ego that US have apologized to us.
No, it was about Principles and it is great that we stood firm by our principles even in strongest of international pressure.

:pakistan:

The US, on numerous occasions expressed regret over the incident, but did not offer a clear apology as demanded by Pakistan. ISAF Commander General Allen had also offered a “personal apology” to Pakistan army chief.

But Clinton said: “Pakistan will continue not to charge any transit fee in the larger interest of peace and security in Afghanistan and the region.

“This is a tangible demonstration of Pakistan’s support for a secure, peaceful, and prosperous Afghanistan and our shared objectives in the region. This will also help the United States and ISAF conduct the planned draw down at a much lower cost.”

Congratulations to all Pakistanis, the Pakistan Army and the Government of Pakistan on this great moral victory and the victory of Principles.

Yeah this because Pakistan said that we won't put any extra tax on the tankers..just apologize (Because Americans were trying to make it money issue instead of apology).
