As much as I hate to admit it, you're right. There's too large a schism between the Middle East and the West for it to be reconciled by the use of force. Adding to the misery of the Arab people is the polarity between divergent Islamic schools of thought and the corrupt reign of dynastic kingdoms that will kill their own people just to stay in power.

Airstrikes are certainly not the cure, but I feel that for the short-term they are the answer to a growing militant organization which has threatened to tumble the delicate balance of de facto power put in place by decades of political dialogue and military intervention.

As a Pakistani, I feel that the airstrikes are quintessential for temporarily destabilizing the IS, quelling its advances and allowing Pakistan additional time to get her house in order before she has to deal with the threat herself.
