im planning to buy a digital camera, my budget is around 15,000 INR or 30,000 PKR.

resolution above 12 mg pxls
and a good zoom so that i can capture images of long distant objects.

preferred brands, NIKON but u may suggest the one u like the most too... :)

thanks in advance.

Following point need to be kept always in mind:-

1) Dont run for fancy MegaPixels as I took full fledged 8 MP shot when I need posters for some photographs else it goes for 4-5 MP. 8 MP goes for around 4-5 mb of space.

2) Always look for high optical zoom rather than Digital zoom as Digital one screws the pix.

3) Always look for Nightshot mode as most of the cameras, I came across were not that good.

4) Look for Extendibility, I mean if you can add more zoom lenses/wide zoom etc.

5) Look for Type of lense used in Camera. Sony used Carl zeiss lenses which were very good but few of them does not have carl one and hence their images on extendibility were pretty bad.

6) Look for type of cells you want. An internal one to be charged or external Ni MH type of Batteries. Both have its own advantages/ disadvantage.

7) Handiness, People generally think that smaller the camera it is better for handiness but when u take a shot it get shaken. So look for always a good grip and hence I personally dont like sleek cameras.

my suggestion would be go for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX9V or Canon PowerShot S95.

Agree with Pride's post., on Resolution Part.

Dude, as you are willing to pay 15000 INR, better go for entry level SLR camera by paying 5 to 7 k INR extra, Canon EOS series or Nikon D series. I have Nikon D 40, 3 years old. Old model, But battery back up is superb. However except resolution aspect, where it feels a bit inadequate sometimes, its quite handy one.

If you want compact digicam (pocket size, non slr) , investing more than 6 to 8 k INR is not worthy in terms of Value for money.

i brought canon s120 one and half year back and great design, feels solid, you can take amazing digital photos, lots of options for manual control. it even can take videos and simple to operate.. it cost me around $240....but now I think it cost you aprox 180 to 200$ or you can check out latest version s130….
One thing I am disappointed with this cam is batteries and image size
