Sushma Swaraj meets Chinese President Xi Jinping

PTI | Feb 2, 2015,
  • India wants China to open its market to Indian companies

Xi had promised opening the new route to Modi during the former's maiden visit to New Delhi last year.

Recalling his fond memories of India visit, Xi told Swaraj "I still cherish the fresh memories in my mind about the gracious hospitality extended to me by the government and people and particularly I cherish the fond memories of my trip to Prime Minister Modi's hometown in Gujarat state."

"The Prime Minister himself accompanied me on the trip. Please convey my best regards and cordial greetings to President (Pranab) Mukherjee and Prime Minister Modi," said Xi, also the general secretary of the ruling Communist Party.

Reciprocating Xi's warm words, Swaraj said Prime Minister Modi has sent his greetings and best wishes for the Chinese lunar Year of Sheep, which commences later this month.

"I have been told that the Lunar Year of Sheep is known as the year of creativity and innovation ... I feel that your India visit was about creativity and innovations," she said, adding that new ways were being devised to improve the relations between the two countries.

While it is indeed rare that Chinese President receives foreign ministers, officials say it demonstrates the Chinese leader's warmth and friendship towards India.

Swaraj, who arrived here on January 31, held in-depth talks with her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi following which she said Prime Minister Modi would make an "outcome driven visit" to China before the BJP-led government completes one year in office in May.

Officials say that Xi was expected to take Modi to his native province of Shaanxi and its historic city Xian — which has ancient Buddhist links with India — to repay the hospitality he received in the Indian premier's home state.

Foreign minister Sushma Swaraj and Chinese President Xi Jinping greet each other before their meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, on February 2, 2015.

Swaraj on Sunday said that her visit was aimed at making preparations for Modi's visit and prepare the ground for 18th round of India-China border talks to resolve the vexed border dispute.

Chinese position is that the border dispute is confined to 2,000km mostly on Arunachal Pradesh whereas India asserts that the dispute covered the western side of the border spanning to about 4,000 km.

The two countries have held 17 rounds of Special Representative talks so far to resolve the boundary dispute.

The issue also figured during talks between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi during his historic visit to India in September last year.

The two leaders had agreed to make efforts to resolve the border dispute at the earliest.

Swaraj said her visit was aimed at reviewing the implementation process for various commitments made by China including $20 billion investment in two industrial parks and cooperation for modernisation of Indian railways.

India is also seeking opening for IT, Pharmaceuticals and Agricultural goods into Chinese markets as a measure to address the $38 billion trade deficit in over $70 trade last year.

We don't pull down other countries

Pakistan has a habit of doing it themselves, a lot of articles by Pakistani media on how Pakistan was being ignored by Obama.
Unlike the Indian media with it's slavish attitude, Pakistani media openly criticises the government, however it's another case that Indians habitually went berserk, this time the Russian weapons for Pakistan was the cause of melt down.

 You Chinese...

The news is directed toward Pakistanis. ToI is known to use these kind of things to irritate Pakistanis.

I don't think Modi is that keen to enhance relations with China. Modi would have been happy if Indian FM wouldn't have got the reception that she got in China.

.
Unlike the Indian media with it's slavish attitude, Pakistani media openly criticises the government, however it's another case that Indians habitually went berserk, this time the Russian weapons for Pakistan was the cause of melt down.

Except for foreign policy and on Kashmir, Indian media compete with each to criticize government on each and every issue. That is how they sell and earn.

Refrain from bringing religion here..You dont want your allah or nabi to be get insulted right? So give respect to get one..

These are the same guys who were criticizing France and Charlie Hebdo, and give us lectures on why not religion shouldn't come in freedom of speech.

. . .
its good , that both China and India solve their disputes once and for all ... Pakistan and India should do same , with all issues , Kashmir , Siachen , Sarkrik , water issues etc ...

. .
Another development :Chinese President Xi to take PM Modi to Xian, his home province!

Let's put altogether :
Xi Jinping visits India in few days Modi Ji came to power .

During joint presses : PM Modi Gi said 3 issues should be resolved an dc discussed including Clearity on LAC .

Ajit Doval goes to China and Recived by President Xi Jinping and had meeting with him.

Sushma Swaraj goes to China . Both formulated new route for Kailash and Mansarovar . Sushma Swaraj gi received by President Xi Jinping. Decided to resolve the border issue .

Xi Jinping conveyed the Confidence in building relationships with India under Narendra Modi gi.

Now it seems Indian PM will be Recived by president Xi Jinping .And both will be visiting premier XI Jinpings home village .

Very very positive ...... Now how can we solve the issue ?

.
Good. Indian elites on the whole are succinct unlike the peasants who feed themselves with TOI.

On the other hand, China need to understand the in democratic country like India, the government has weaker control over the media. Jingoistic reporting create sensation which drive up sales.

Chinese people need to be aware that bullcrap of TOI some times does not represent what Indian government is thinking.

which indian media are more representative of the indian govt's policy?

It's a trap!

PS, if you worship Buddha, you worship India. Especially, the Buddha palm.

Buddha has long lost his place in india
Shiva has taken over
A big failure on your part after recklessly promoting india for so long

.
I hope China helps India with ASEAN it is a big economic trade bloc

.
What's with this weird topic name? India sending a diplomat to China sure doesn't sound like China is the one being desperate after India received Obama's visit. Looks more to me that India is eager to tell China and Russia ASAP there's nothing to worry, and that India will continue to remain unaligned.
