Key highlights-

1]The upgrade of sukhoi fleet consists of 2 parts-
a]Upgrade of existing and new hal built su-30s
b]Deal for 42 or 44 new su-30s which will come with super config over original 230.[deal went from 42 to 44 due to crashes i think]

2]The latter 44 su-30 will be built to carry barhmos ALCM.

3]The upgrade of existing su-30mki to super 30 programme will be thus-
a]Original oldest 50 su-30mkis first tranche-5 upgraded in russia,45 in HAL.
b]Followed by second tranche of 42 su-30 mkis.
c]Meanwhile HAL will integrate ZHUK AESA on last 40 of its license produced su-30MKIs from the original deal that its already pumping out.

4]Upgrade of these will continue from 2014 to 2018[notwithstanding delays].Remaining ones after that.

5]New weapons for super sukhoi will be RRV-SD,RVV-MD and NOVATOR K-100 AWACS killer. All 3 will also go on board PAK FA.

6]Other developments will be ZHUK AESA radar,Plus the same new gen electro optical sensor as on pak fa and same cockpit as on pak fa current prototypes.
Also new tactical air navigation system, satellite communication equipment, transponder, radio altimeter and flight data recorder.
Modest Structural modifications and New RAM coatings to reduce RCS.

7]The last 42/44 super sukhoi deal su-30s will have much more composites than current design, similar to the russian su-30 SM that russian air force recently recieved.

The FGA-35 version has detection range of 160-200km vs 5 m^2 target, can track 60 and engage 6 targets simultaneously.
Being an AESA radar its far less prone to jamming.

Any idea when will first super sukhoi will arrive.

Late 2014 unless delay.

ADVANTAGES OF AESA over other radars-

AESA radars offer significant gains in reliability. By focusing power at specific directions, the pilot can gain more detection range providing "first detect" for air-to-air engagements, enabling first shoot/first kill by missiles fired Beyond Visual Range (BVR) mode. The longer standoff range also allows more time for persistent target observation, information sharing, tactical analysis and commander assessment before critical decisions are made.

AESA radars are emitting not only radar signals, but can also be employed for non traditional ISR, as well as electronic attack. For example, some of the elements can transmit and receive signals modulated with datalink waveform, transferring large amounts of data (such as live video or aerial imagery) over high bandwidth datalinks. Similar techniques can be used for electronic attack, to jam or deceive electronic systems operated by enemy forces.

The mechanical scanning systems used in previous systems were prone to failures, which grounded the entire aircraft. The new systems use solid-state technology and electronic scanning, to replace the mechanical systems but also introduce multiple elements to replace the single channel design of previous systems. Therefore, AESA radars can sustain certain degree of failure without grounding the aircraft or disabling the entire radar system. Furthermore, when designed with modular approach, AESA radars can be gradually upgraded, by replacing the solid-state receive/transmit modules based on Gallium-arsenide semiconductors technology with more advanced elements, thus significantly improving performance.

Even the second version Zhuk-AE of MiG-35 has a range of 160km for 3m2 target or 182km for 5m2(first version with a less bigger dish had a range of 130km for 3m2 target). So you can bet Su-30 with close to double the size of the MiG-35 variant of AE will be significantly higher.

.
I certainly doubt SS-MKI will end up with ZHUK AE.

.
Note- the version of the ZHUK AE to go abroad super sukhoi will be the new fga-35 version with better range, more TR modules [1100]and 6 kw power.

The radar is not decided yet, still under evalutaion between Zhuk AE and Bars AESA. Also no matter which radar will win at the end, the number of TR modules should be far higher with a possible diameter of 900mm, compared to the 688mm of the Mig.

Something from another force india article.

''And come 2014, UAC, together with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) will begin upgrading the first 100 IAF Su-30MKIs by modifying their airframes to make them stealthy, converting the existing ‘Bars’ into an active phased-array radar, enhancing the situational awareness by incorporating active electronically scanned transmit/receive arrays on the aircraft’s wings, and beefing up the defensive-aids suite by installing a combined radar/laser warning system and a missile approach warning system. Tikhomirov-NIIP had by last November begun laboratory-level tests of a ‘Bars’, which was fitted with an AESA array made up of X-band transmit/receive modules built by Istok JSC. Since then, another two ‘Bars’ radars have been modified as part of the R&D phase, which will last until 2012, and will be followed by flight qualification a year later. Incidentally, Tikhomirov-NIIP has also developed the Irbis-E passive phased-array radar for the Su-35BM and will soon begin work on modifying the Irbis-E into an active phased-array radar, which will go on board the Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) that will be co-developed by UAC and HAL. In addition, both UAC and Tikhomirov-NIIP have come together to develop the ‘smart skin’ concept under which an AESA array’s transmit/receive modules can be placed anywhere on board the Su-30MKI to generate the relevant radiation field required for achieving more than 180-degree field-of-view. ''

Any further news in this project guys? We know that first MKI with fly by this year end but what about AESA radars? Have we decided to go with Zuke-AE(FGA-35) or IRBIS AESA?

Haven't heard anything for long? After the elections??
Stop fixating on elections. They have actually VERY little impact on such procurements, the most they can do is impose a delay of mere months. Delays are not signed more often than not because of on going talks and agreements being clarified.
