Update on Kaveri Engine

And what about the gas turbine project. The last time naval officials were given a briefing they were very excited about it.
Yes GE and RR is a far cry, even the Ukrainian ones, but if we make a decent one , a big boost to our Navy and we have a very big market ahead of us. And we will surely have price advantage over RR and GE . If we actually complete it on time our competitions will be only with Russians, Chinese only , I am counting on present turmoil in Ukraine and thus keeping it out.

Sirjee , I am with you on this.
AMCA will not be a heavy fighter like flankers so two afterburning jet engines with a wet thrust of 110kn each and 2D TV will be awesome.

Just 2 days ago news was about Russian engine maker signing a MOU with Indian firm for co development, of a Thrust Vector version.

This is as per Indian Navy Modernisation documents

And even Gear boxes are imported.
What about Diesel Generators ?

. . . .
So we are looking at two category of Marine Gas Turbine MGT:
1. 11-15 MW : Now this can be fulfilled by the Kaveri MGT, last i heard its producing 12-14 MW
2. 20-25 MW : This one is being fulfilled by LM 2500 or Zorya

nice that IN is working hard to have higher indigenisation in MOVE category .....may be in 4/5 we will have 75-85% up from 50-60%

Let the A330 MRTTs get ordered, then you will hear something about this rest assured.

I think @Echo_419 is putting a good point. It is better to get used Il76s from IAF or even 2nd hand from Russia and use them as testbed rather using newer A330s as a testbed when they are required in much more important tasks .

What I meant to say/imply was that the A330 MRTTs will be coming to the IAF replacing IL-78MKI AARs and they, being newer than the IL-76s and recently upgraded will be released for such duties- this is what I have heard. The IL-76s will continue in their role for a while yet (many are being upgraded now) as the IAF's airlift fleet remains strained and the total C-17 requirement (>22) left unfulfilled.

. .
Yeah...I said that long before. Why not make AMCA a twin Kaveri engined Plane? I have full trust in Kaveri even if entire PDF Indian embers aginst it. But I do not have trust in Gromov testing result. Might have been compromised!!

Let's put ourselves in Russia's shoes for a minute.

We know India is buying engines from USA, first f404 then f414 and now there is talk about co-development of improved version of f414 to 110kn. There is no chance of Russia selling their engines for India's future fighter jets. They lost all of their potential business. We also know how much they love USA, given that love, they will do everything in their power to reduce India's dependency on America. Which will relate to Russia's help on India's indigenously-built engines.
Russia might not be happy with us, because of the tilt to USA, but they will fight to keep us, after all Russia's defence industry is highly dependent on India's purchases.

They still have the contract for FGFA

. . .
During UPA rule, more than 80% of defense procurements went to Russia. Now India is buying from France, Isreal, USA and even Japan. So Russia's share is getting smaller and smaller.
That rubbies see the 10 yr how much we purchase from USA

@Echo_419 @PARIKRAMA

The best way to have an in-house testbed is to convert one of the existing Il-76MDs of the IAF for this purpose. But I don't think IAF would be ready to lose one of it's important airlifters at this point...so another way is to buy 1 or 2 new-build Il-76MD-90A versions directly from Russia and put them under HAL/GTRE control as a dedicated test-bed aircraft.

In fact for such purposes, maybe we can even request RuAF or other Russian scientific agencies to transfer a used Il-76, after refurbishment if necessary, should we think a new-build aircraft is not needed just for testing engines.
