Yeah. People do connect with animals and for a vegetarian the idea of killing any animal for food is abhorable (I am a nonvegetarian by the way). It arouses same disgust in them as cannibalism might in you. Consider coming home and finding out your "dog" has been cooked by your mom for lunch? Wont be a pleasant lunch now, would it? What is taboo for you may not be taboo for someone else, so the same argument applies.

I get the sentiment of some vegetarians with respect to animal welfare, love, and all of that, but I also think it is unbelievably idiotic that they impose their beliefs on those who simply don't care. I have loads of animals as well, in all shapes and sizes mind you, but consumption of meat for nutritional purposes (and because I love it) is completely irrelevant to my love for animals. For the record, cannibalism does NOT disgust me. Not in the least. Just don't be gnawing on my arms is all.

Your rationale doesn't hold, mate, you must try harder than juvenile bs like, "what if you return home from work only to find that your mum's cooked little tommy for dinner". I don't think I can argue with that level of silliness.

Why is it silly? It is relevant to the topic. No one is asking to ban beef to inconvenience you and other beef eaters. It is not like they one day got up and said oh we must create trouble for beef eaters and make their lives miserable. The objection to beef is culturally linked and people are too much emotionally invested in it. See.

And Hinduism itself is a very diverse religion, there is no single rule or single way for Hinduism, and that is its essence. Do you know about Aghoris? Just search for them.

In case you did not notice, we do not have ranches in this country. All cattle in India are raised for milk and their input in the farms. The only animals raised for meat are the sheep/goat and poultry.

In all this argument no one has dragged in Hinduism. By the way Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs are also not in favor of beef eating. This is followed in all South Asian and South East Asian countries too.

That is a factually incorrect statement. Karnataka state for example, has bull farms.
