LOL.......haven't found a single one yet but someone did come up with a very specific number.

A new study by UK scientists has backed theories on life in outer space by finding there could be up to 36 intelligent alien races in our galaxy.

Researchers from the University of Nottingham calculated there could be dozens of other extra terrestrial civilisations within the Milky Way.

But because the average distance to such worlds would be 17,000 light-years, communication and detection would be "very difficult" from Earth with current technology.

The study estimated the number of intelligent communicating civilisations within our own galaxy by assuming that intelligent life develops on other planets in a similar way to Earth.

"There should be at least a few dozen active civilisations in our galaxy, under the assumption that it takes five billion years for intelligent life to form on other planets, as on Earth," lead researcher Christopher Conselice said.

The research reveals that the number of extra-terrestrial worlds depends on how long they are actively sending out signals into space, such as radio transmissions from satellites and television.

If other technological civilisations survive as long as ours, which is 100 years old, then there will be about 36 ongoing intelligent technical life forms in the Milky Way, the study found.

The theory revolved around examining evolution and applying it on a cosmic scale, Professor Conselice says.

It theorises that intelligent life forms in less than five billion years, or after about five billion years.

On Earth, a communicating civilisation formed after 4.5 billion years.

"In the strong criteria, whereby a metal content equal to that of the Sun is needed (the Sun is relatively metal rich), we calculate that there should be around 36 active civilizations in our Galaxy," first author Tom Westby said.

Discovering the scale – if any – of intelligent life could offer a glimpse into the chances of Earth's existence, the study found.

If intelligent life is common, then this would reveal our civilisation could exist for much longer than a few hundred years.

But, if there are no active civilisations in our galaxy then it is a bad sign for our planet's long-term survival.

The study is published in The Astrophysical Journal.

Intelligence doesn't matter alone, it's the combination of intelligence and the ability to manipulate the environment that counts.

Even a cow or dog with 200 IQ can't do as much as even a 5 year old human because they can't use tools easily.

We have a pretty good idea that whatever shape intelligent aliens are, they have to be able to use tools. So being aquatic, hooved, pawed, etc. Wouldn't work. They'll need hands or tentacles.

99.9% of the human beings living on earth cannot build microprocessors, aircrafts, submarines etc. It is always 0.1% which are the real intelligent ones that bring the change, if they are not there the rest of the 99.9% human beings wouldn't be doing anything better than human beings 5000 years ago.

You have a wrong concept of being intelligent, being intelligent doesn't necessarily means being friendlier or merciful.

It's the ability to follow orders and carry them out using tools that distinguishes humans. Intellectually, most humans, even scientists, engineers, politicians, economists and businessmen, haven't changed much since 10000 BC at the start of Neolithic farming. We just got better at following orders and using tools.

Meanwhile a dog can follow orders but they can't use tools. A cow can sometimes follow orders, but still can't use tools. The only species proven to use tools other than humans are apes and octopi.

An evolutionary observation: humanity is at least a million times ahead of its closest species on earth; you can call them Chimpanzees or Dolfin or Cats or whatever, but there is a celestial gap between smartest species of this planet and the second smartest species. Do you not see something happened with the smartest species which made it what it is?

One of the Ahadith of Prophet Muhammad SAWW says our earth is on top of all other words, and if there was a long rope with a bucket (a relevant metaphor from that era) and if the rope was lower enough, it will eventually reach the other world.

The incident of Yajooj Majooj and its Ahadith speak of "Large birds coming from sky" to throw degenerating bodies of once the war would be over.

I have been a student of this subject and I have spent some 10 years studying. I am sure about the following aspects;

• that there are aliens
• there are multiple kinds of them
• they are living on the planet since long
• they reach us on the planet instead of we reach them on their planets
• some alien races are hostile to humanity, others are not
• There are at least 3 smart species that are native to the planet: Humans, Sasquatch and Jins

I know this sounds insane, but I am willing to stand to my "insanity" and I have reached these conclusions after long research. I started my journey being a sceptic but now I have concluded them to be true.

Here is a south American species of monkey (not an ape) which has already entered in its monkey stone age, I wouldn't be surprised if they emerge as second most intelligent life form in distant future.
