Up to 27 Hindus 'converted to Christianity' by missionaries in Kushinagar

Neither Govt, nor BJP involved in conversion: Naidu | Zee News

Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu insisted that the government does not support conversion or re-conversion.

"Government is nowhere in the picture, the party (BJP) is nowhere in the picture. If any individual does it, action has to be taken by the state government," he said after Congress member KC Venugopal, supported by his and other opposition parties, raised the issue during Zero Hour.

"Government is not involved and government does not support conversion or re-conversion. The entire country is peaceful, some people are unhappy. ... You want to make a political issue, make it outside. You can't go levelling allegations," Naidu.

With Venugopal raising the issue of recent instances of conversions in Kerala, Naidu said, "Action has to be taken by the state government and unfortunately it belongs to Venugopal's party (Cong). Who stopped the Congress government (in Kerala) from taking action? Action should be taken by the state government."

Earlier raising the issue, Venugopal said while two cases of conversion were reported from Kerala, there was one in Gujarat's Valsad district.

"I want to know whether the government will condemn these incidents," the Congress member said.

"These incidents indicate a purposeful move of the Sangh Parivar ... It is not an innocent move. The organisers are carrying out conversions by dishing out false promises, they are disturbing communal harmony. They are giving huge publicity to these functions," he said, fuelling protests from BJP members.

Never wanted to convert the world but to win over its heart, says VHP : North, News - India Today

Hindu outfit Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Sunday said they have never wanted to convert the world but only to "win over its heart".
Speaking at a book launch, VHP leader Ashok Singhal said it was due to their "struggle" in the last 50 years that Hindus have "regained" the lost "empire" of Delhi after 800 years, PTI reported.

"Our culture and religion were subjugated and we struggled. In 800 years, a day has now come in which we can say we have a government which is committed to protecting Hindutva. Our values will be gradually established in the country.

"We want an invincible Hindu society which works for the world's welfare according to these values...We have never gone out to convert the world but to win over their heart," Singhal said, apparently referring to the recent row over conversion.

Referring to the BJP government, he said Hindus have come back to power in Delhi after Rajput king Prithviraj Chauhan lost it in the 12th century.

He claimed that various powers in their attempts to capture the world have brought it close to a world war.

"You can see that in Australia and in Central Asia. The danger of 'Islamic terrorism' we can see in Europe. This war could have been stopped but the way different powers are in a race to establish their reign in the world, it seems this world war is inevitable," he said.

However, he said Hindus will not be a "player" in such a war as they have always sought to win the world by love and believed in spiritual and not material victory.

"They (others) are showcasing their strength on the basis of hate...World will have to think that if we have to live together then we can do so only on the basis of mutual love that India has been propagating," he said.

As many as 27 Hindus from five families in Kushinagar reportedly converted to Christianity on Saturday.
The incident follows the reconversion of some Muslims to Hinduism in ‘ghar wapasi’ events organised by a right-wing organisation in Agra.
The ‘converted’ villagers in Kushinagar were reportedly in touch with some Christian missionaries from Bihar.

Christian mission: A church, still being built, in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district. Around 27 people of Gangua-Mathia village in the district were found worshipping Jesus Christ in a house
According to the village headman, a villager called Dilip Gupta motivated others to convert to Christianity.
The Kushinagar incident came to light on Sunday when 27 people from Gangua-Mathia village were found worshipping Jesus Christ in a house.
The locality is about 50km from Gorakshnath Mutt where Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Gorakhpur, Yogi Adityanath, is a mahant.
The area is Adityanath’s stronghold. Not surprisingly, on Sunday evening about a dozen supporters of Adityanath rushed to the village after learning of the conversion.

Adityanath had recently said events have been planned for December 25 in Aligarh, during which Muslims and Christians will be re-converted as Hindus.
According to a villager in Kushinagar, Christian missionaries from Betiah and Narkatiyaganj in Bihar used to visit the house of villager Dilip Gupta.
“Earlier, only Dilip used to attend their functions in Betiah and Narkatiyaganj. We knew that he was attracted to Christianity. But recently more villagers started going to Bihar along with Dilip to meet the missionaries,” a woman from the village told Mail Today.
“They would stay away from the village for many days. We saw them on Saturday performing some rituals in presence of a missionary. But we didn't know what exactly they were doing.
"On Sunday, we heard them singing a song in Dilip’s house. When we went there, we saw a Bible in their hand and a small statue of Jesus Christ in front of them,” she added.
Those with Dilip in the house included Prabhu Prajapati, Kishan Gupta, Malti Gupta and Ramawati Gupta.
On Sunday night members of Adityanath’s Hindu Yuva Vahini visited the village and looked for the ‘converted’ people, she said.
Sub-divisional magistrate Sri Prakash Shukla, who rushed to the village, said: “We have received complaints of religious conversion in the village. The matter is under probe.”
However, Kushinagar district magistrate Lokesh M. said: “They were converted to Christianity in Mumbai last year. It is not a new incident.”
Village headman Ajay Kharwar said: “Dilip used to live in Mumbai till last year. He was in touch with some missionaries. But it appears that he recently motivated four families and they all got converted to Christianity.
"I came to know about it on Sunday when they were performing some rituals, and informed the administration about it. Due to tension in the village on Sunday, they escaped from their houses in the night.”

There is a good reason behind it because the missionaries activities are visible in each Indian city , Even i was offered job and incentives if i convert to Christianity but the sad thing is this that even Hindu organizations are doing the same now. Religion should be accepted by heart but right now a system is placed to hurt people financially and make them to change the religion.

So basically both sides does it but you only condemn one? I agree that religion should be accepted by heart but there is actually no way for me or you to measure why someone else has changed religion. This is why it is of paramount importance that people are allowed to choose whatever religion they want to convert to, even if it is for monetary benefits. The government should not interfere in this except from making sure there is no violence or coercion.

All this has become a tit for tat type of issue in which all the organizations using money to lure people and these are one way or another way linked to politics but over all religious people in all the communities are just silently watching but are being made to take a stand and its like this are you secular or nationalist ? and in reality all the people are against using money and force.

Government has to make some sort of system and mechanism and place honest people who keep the spirit of Indian multiculturalism alive.

Conversions due to poverty and illiteracy: Puri Shankaracharya | Zee News

Mathura: To tackle the issue of conversion of Hindus, Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati has said attention should be paid to the problems of poverty and illiteracy.

Speaking to reporters at his ashram at Chaitanya Vihar in Vrindavan on Monday, Shankaracharya dubbed the conversion of Hindus as "wrong" and said the main reasons behind it are poverty, ignorance and helplessness of the people.

He urged people not to create hype and said any debate on conversions has to delve into these issues, as many of the people convert because they face various scarcities in life.

Shankaracharya also said those who convert may not be able to understand the essence of their religion or they are being lured by incentives.

He asserted that if the basic needs of the people are met and social fabric kept intact, then at least Hindus will not opt for conversion.

Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Sadiq slams RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on conversion issue : North, News - India Today

Noted Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Sadiq has dubbed RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat "a fake Hindu". Sadiq, also the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) vice-president, was reacting to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Bhagwat's justification of alleged religious conversion or ghar wapsi (homecoming) and claim that "India is a Hindu Rashtra".
Speaking in Aligarh on Sunday evening, he said: "The country's social harmony would become excellent when people stopped taking seriously the statements of mindless fellows who are busy in doing political stunt."

Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Sadiq

War of words

While dubbing Bhagwat an imposter, Sadiq said, "He is a fake Hindu and doing theatrics only. It would be better for him to first try to become a true Hindu who cannot be a fundamentalist."

Regarding Rajeshwar Singh of Dharm Jagran Samiti, he said: "They claim they will convert entire country into Hindus by 2021. I want to know what they will do with those who have been circumcised."

He added: "I dare the RSS Sarsanghchalak to convert Al-Qaeda, Taliban, Islamic State (IS) and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen members into Hinduism before looking at Indian Muslims."

UP's Urban Development and Minority Affairs Minister Azam Khan said: "The RSS, the first terrorist organisation of the world, has got an opportunity to target Muslims. It stands by Nathuram Godse, the world's first terrorist who had killed Mahatma Gandhi. Their intention becomes clear when they claim that Babri Masjid and Taj Mahal were temples." Union Minister of State for Agriculture Sanjeev Baliyan said, "Those who give such statements are no less than terrorists. Azam is also like a terrorist. It will be proved if the Central Bureau of Investigation probes the September 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots."

Yogi Adityanath, BJP MP from Gorakhpur, said: "Those who have been converted to Islam or Christianity would be brought back to their original faith in the next few months. Nobody can stop us."

The church

Meanwhile, there is tension in several villages of Uttar Pradesh after rise in the cases of churches allegedly converting Hindus into Christians.

Police locked a church in Barsendi village of Faizabad district on Sunday after people turned violent against Manoj Paster, the father, who allegedly invited them to embrace Christianity at a function on December 25. Village chief and a local BJP leader Kali Prasad Vishwakarma alleged that Manoj, a Pasi by caste, adopted Christianity two years ago and was now trying to convert the entire village.

Circle Officer M.A. Siddiqui said: "Manoj is a Hindu practising Christian customs. He locked the prayer hall on his own."

Police force have also been deployed in Gulariya village in Jalalabad area of Shahjahanpur after villagers complained that expradhan Mahadeen Verma and Christian missionary Ranjit were planning mass conversion of Hindus on the night of December 24. Same is the situation in Matehikalan village of Bahraich district and Misirpur Gohana area of Ghazipur.

Conversion of seven families of Yadavs to Christianity in Moradabad's Bala Ki Sarai has also come to light. But SSP of Moradabad Luv Kumar refuted the same.

Half-a-dozen Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal leaders are camping in Agra's Garhi Sampat village where 20 Hindu women are practising Christian customs for the past few months.

Ajju Chauhan, a Bajrang Dal leader, said: "If Nand Kishore Valmiki of Dharm Jagran Samiti can be arrested for converting Muslims of Agra, why are Christians not nabbed for converting Hindus?"

But Father Andrew Koriya of Tunda's Catholic Church said, "This church or the Christians are not involved in any conversion activity."

Hindutva and the people

However, bullies in the guise of Hindu activists are compelling people of many areas to live in fear. Over 200 farmers in Bedauli village of Maharajganj have threatened to join another religion if Hindu leaders didn't stop victimising them.

Sonra Devi, a village woman said, "Praveen Togadia wants 100 per cent Hindus in India. But, the Hindutva goons roaming here promise to protect us but actually eye our lands." Some followers of Yogi in Kushinagar have been allegedly doing the same with poor farmers of Ramkola area.

The Mahadalits from 40 families of Atiya village under Pararia panchayat of Bodh Gaya block converted to Christianity at a Christmas function organised in a local school.
After Bhagalpur and Munger, it was turn of Bodh Gaya where in a village 200 Mahadalits converted to Christianity on Christmas Day. Chief Minister Jitan Manjhi, who himself is from the community and from the same district, has sought a probe into the event.

About 200 Mahadalits from 40 families of Atiya village under Pararia panchayat of Bodh Gaya block converted to Christianity on Thursday at a Christmas function organised in a local school by a priest, Brother Rajkishore.

In 2008 too, 35 families from the same village had converted to Christianity

The villagers have reportedly said that they have converted to Christianity for their growth and betterment in life. However, village head Munia Devi said she has no knowledge about the conversions, “though, a function was organised in the village school on Thursday”.

A local official said that the villagers like Dhanesh Manjhi and Bhanesh Manjhi have said that they had participated in the function on Christmas day to express their faith in Christianity like other villagers without any “allurement, fear or favour”.

Meanwhile, Mr. Manjhi, who was in his village in Gaya district on Thursday, has sought a report on the incident from the district magistrate. “I’ve asked the officials to look into it whether it was forced conversion out of any pressure or allurement or on their own,” he said.

“If they have converted on their own there is nothing wrong in it,” he said while adding that a high-level probe could be ordered if there was any need of it.

Earlier, similar reports of conversion of Mahadalit families to Christianity had come from Bhagalpur ad Munger districts of the State. However, when officials visited those villages to ascertain the facts, the villagers had denied their “conversion to any other religion” and had said they have merely expressed their faith in Jesus Christ for “betterment and growth in their life”.

Conversion into Hinduism is rare and makes news (because its rare). It is a dying faith. If the Christian evangelicals are not stopped, Hinduism should be extinct by the turn of the next century.
