unmanned Tanks

I wanted to work on rail gun project so i collected n learned all the necessary information to make one..it took me more thn a year to understand each n everything about coil n rail guns..so in my final year thesis i presented everything to my supervisor,,at first he was shocked n told me that he cannot help me with this as he is not an expert in electromagnetism field..n when i convinced him that i can make one myself n let me choose another supervisor who can help me in this,,but he turned down my request n handed me his own thesis about BLDC motors :sick: ...

the question is how the hell am i supposed to do what i really want to do? :hitwall: nothing is impossible if we work hard but nothing can be built out of the air n papers

With shoulder launched anti-tank weapons becoming common it's getting harder and harder to protect a tank.

UCAV's have shown their benefits by not being limited by harsh terrain....like mountainous areas...that limits a tank.

So if any energy is going to be put forth in designing a future robot tank it probably isn't going to follow the same big bulky strategy as a manned one.

They will probably have to be small enough to be airdropped into an area and then extracted.

It would probably be more like a heavy sentry gun that can move. You'd drop a bunch on the tops of tall hills and it would basically shoot anything that comes within range.

Some countries must be working on projects to counter javelin or any other anti-tank weapon !

The Black Knight prototype combat vehicle was developed by BAE Systems. It is an early prototype, which demonstrates advanced robotic technologies. Vehicle is currently being tested and evaluated by the US Army.

The Black Knight can be used for missions that are too risky for a manned vehicle. These include forward scouting, intelligence gathering and investigating hazardous areas. The Black Knight can be integrated with existing systems.

The Black Knight is controlled from the commander's station located inside the Bradley. Vehicle can also be operated by portable control device, when operators dismount from the Bradley. Operator can see on screen Black Knight's gun and turret position, as well as information from acquisition system and commander's independent viewer. Vehicle enables operator to acquire situational data from unmanned forward positions.

The Black Knight uses advanced robotic technology for autonomous mobility. Vehicle's perception and control module includes high sensitivity video cameras, Laser Radar (LADAR), thermal imaging camera and GPS. The sensor suite supports fully-autonomous driving. Vehicle can maneuver and plan routes without operator's intervention. Black Knight's autonomous navigation system enables to detect negative obstacles and avoid them. It has day and night operation capability.

The Black Knight is equipped with 25-mm cannon and coaxial 7.62-mm machine gun, derived from the Bradley.

Vehicle is fitted with the Caterpillar diesel engine, developing 300 horsepower. The Black Knight uses many automotive components from the Bradley to reduce costs and simplify maintenance. It's high maximum speed allows to keep pace with main battle tanks. The Black Knight can be airlifted by the C-130 transport aircraft.
