Universe to end in 5 billion years, predict scientists

For scientists (like me) it is not a question about when will the "world" come to and end. Rather the real question is when will my funding end? When will I have to get a job where I contribute to the economic product of my society in the here and now? THAT is the real scientific question.....

That is NOT the real question. btw, what kind of scientist are you anyways?

if you ask scientists that deals with astronomy or physics, they Are in favor of these kinds of question rather than society issues.

BTW, there are many others to deal with economic society in here.

I LOVE ASTRONOMY.

Personally I could less about the destruction of the Universe in 5 billion years but I am very curious about what exactly is going to happen after the destruction.

cycle. new stars are born and they die. it's all the cycle. also known as "reincarnation: in Hinduism. will continue forever.

personally, love this philosophy.

My "point" is that scientists should help their societies and not waste precious resources on esoteric questions that only enrich themselves but give nothing useful back to the people who pay their salaries.....

like i said before, there are already too many people to take care of society. why would you wanna drag scientists as well??

Scientists don't actually 'waste' any resource on such 'esoteric question'. Answers to such question are found as our knowledge increases. Do you think somebody is actually investing to find the life time of universe?? No, but people are investing and researching the lives of stars, and various processes happening there. This enhances knowledge about world, which could be used for society afterwards.

Because the so-called people who are "taking care" of society are doing a lousy job. Scientists have some modicum of intelligence so I think they should help the dolts who are "helping" society. Of course this is just my humble opinion.....

Every person has his own role to perform. Scientists are doing their part just fine. How do you think we have advanced to such level otherwise?!

Hey, don't get me wrong! I have a BS, MS and PhD in Physics. I have spent my entire working life, college grad in 1967, as a scientist either doing research or product development. Still, having observed my fellow scientists, I still believe that, as a group, they could be more socially conscious and could spend more of their energy helping society, rather than themselves and their own egos. IMHO, of course!

Than it is about perception. I have seen my seniors, friends working hard for science. In return getting nothing, just the joy of researching. I have also seen society's response when some of them wanted to do something for it, in their own way. I feel they are better off focusing all their energy on their work, cause in long term it will benefit society more.
