Indian women need to be self reliant - get yourself armed. Know how to kick balls - literally. After a couple of generations of hard lessons, the entire society will adapt to changed circumstances. Karata, Judo, or good old tight slaps....or the Durga Vahini.... @DRAY
No, I can't prove that. But let me bring @PlanetWarrior and @FaujHistorian
The male to female overall sex ratio in India is averages 944 females to 1000 men (2011 census). That is not a low proportion of male to female ratio and signifies a balance equity of male to female in Indian society by world standards. The Indian constitution has many measures to empower women and to keep in check discrimination. Move back to the 1970s and Indian women started to challenge their patriarchal society. Indian women have many role models to inspire them to reach the top. Indira Gandhi, various Bollywood stars and musicians and the list is endless. Society will not adapt or change the circumstances by women becoming more physically assertive or stronger. On the contrary, especially in rural areas, men will start becoming more violent. Women need to educate men in their family about the role of women in Indian society. They need to become more vocal about abuse against women and they need to form more organizations which highlights abuse and discrimination in the media apart from placing pressure on government to fast track legislation to protect and empower them. There has been change in the upper middle class and wealthier parts of Indian society in the past 20 years when it comes to the average male's attitude towards women. That needs to start filtering down in the lower earning rungs of society. For starters, Indian schools need to introduce a course which teaches kids about basic manners when addressing the opposite sex. All these taboo attitudes towards a more liberal society in schooling curriculums doesn't do the average Indian any favors when it comes to behaving responsibly in society when they become adults.
