Dhaka fails to persuade China, India, Japan to vote for the resolution introduced by Pakistan

The September 26 vote on a resolution titled “Situation of human rights of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar” at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has once again exposed Bangladesh’s failure indiplomacy.
Although the resolution was passed by an overwhelming majority,Bangladesh failed to convince any of its neighbours to support it.The draft of the resolution was introduced by Pakistan on behalf of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the European Union. The resolution expressed grave concern at continuing reports of serious human rights violations and abuses in Myanmar, against Rohingya Muslims and other minorities.
The violations include arbitrary arrests, torture,
forced labour, socioeconomic exploitation, the forced displacement of more than a million Rohingya Muslims to Bangladesh, and sexual and gender-based violence against women and children among others. The resolution urges Myanmar to take concrete steps towards the creation of an environment conducive to the voluntary, safe, dignified and sustainable return of the forcibly displaced Rohingya refugees residing in Bangladesh. The 47-member UNHRC
adopted the resolution by 37 votes in favour, two against, and with seven abstentions. The two countries who voted against the resolution were China and The Philippines, while the abstentions were India,Nepal, Japan, Brazil,
Ukraine, Angola and Cameroon.
The lack of support from
China, India, and Japan is particularly alarming, as Dhaka has repeatedly
maintained that these countries are with Bangladesh on the Rohingya issue. Does the voting pattern of the said countries support Dhaka’s claim? Many will disagree.
China, the staunchest ally of Myanmar and now officially engaged with the repatriation process, is the only country with which Bangladesh has a strategic partnership. However,Bangladesh has still failed time and again to prove itself more important to China than Myanmar. It is high time Dhaka uses its leverage wisely to obtain
the support of Beijing for a just cause.
Leaders of Bangladesh and India often say the
relationship between the
two countries is beyond the need for a strategic
partnership. There are
numerous engagements
between the two countries in various sectors, and it is widely perceived that Dhaka
does more for Delhi.
However, Bangladesh has been unable to gain India’s support on the Rohingya issue by failing to play its cards right.
Japan is one of the largest development partners of Bangladesh and also has a great deal of economic interests in the country.
Tokyo’s activities to aid the Rohingya repatriation have recently been noticed, which is positive, but Japan’s failure to support Bangladesh on a just resolution raises questions over the extent of its support.
All in all, it can be safely
said the least that so far
Bangladeshi diplomacy has not performed as the people of the country wanted it to.
The country has to use the leverage at its disposal to earn the support of strategic partners and neighbours, or the Rohingya crisis may linger on and have devastating effects.

Bandhudesh Bharat, strategic ally China once again showing their true colors.

resolution introduced by Pakistan
Thanks to Pakistan & every other civilized countries who voted in favor of Bangladesh.

The ineptitude of our foreign ministry officials can be only compared with BAF methinks.
Look at how Pakistan is highlighting Kashmir issue everywhere. Why aren't we doing the same with the Rohingya issue?

.
Pakistan again being the most selfless nation.

And in regards to why China and India would reject it? Simple: so that it's own human right abuses are justified and left alone.

If I could I would have given this a positive rating.
This is the truth imo despite whatever the Chinese & Indians may claim.

The Hasina regime ignored it because it was introduced by Pakistan. She avoided a golden opportunity to highlight the Rohingya atrocity because she was too busy issuing statements about terrorism with Modi.

This is not surprising, especially with India and China. About Japan, IDK much so no comments.

Regarding Pak, credit to where it is due for bringing the resolution up. But dont forget, they also sold jets to Myanmar. However, I'd cut them a slack given the fact the JF Thunder is a joint China-Pak project. So there might have been pressure from China to sell it. I dont know. May be the Pakistanis can clarify further.

Moral of the story is, nobody is nobody's friend. We gotta take care of our shit and find trues allies instead of just 'friends' and 'strategic development partners'.

Preach all this to your stupid PM.

Burma is too important for east China to avoid strait of Malacca so their support is understandable. I don't know what's the reason behind Japan's behaviour.

Trust me when I say this, Hasina is anything but stupid. She is an extremely cunny women. Whether one likes her policy/activity or not is another story.

On the topic, this is more of our foreign policy failure. We have been always 'neutral' in every issue, so long the issue doesnt concern with us. Once its regarding us, we see true faces of others.

However, its good that this has happened now. BD needs to learn that it has no friends and it needs to take care of its own problem. Good riddance nonetheless.

I agree with you about Hasina.

Although I don't like her positions, I sense she is an extremely shrewd woman.

I don't have to leave out anyone, I only saw China, India and Japan in the OP title, are there any other nations also? I always told you that Japan has a closer relations with Myanmar than with BD.

Yup...Japan did correct thing here.

There is good scope for China, India and Japan to pragmatically cooperate on picking Burma over BD.

What is especially hillarious is the time and effort put in by BD members here in saying Japan is going to help, Japan is great, Japan is preferable to China/India....Japan is best thing since sliced bread blah blah....

....and now this quick potent slap from Japan in return. Good karma for sniveling sycophants.

I don't know what's the reason behind Japan's behaviour.

Simple, spend enough time talking to a BD "elite", the ingrate whine eventually passes the tolerable-cringe threshold.

Just reference any country today that has had any serious dealing with BD due to 20th century history.

Japan is not anything out of the blue....they likely have come across typical BD govt types a fair amount through their loan program....whereas myanmar is much more tolerable and "doing" rather than blabbing/crying attitude.

More far removed you are from BD and less you know their true nature...or the extreme case of having to deal with their riffraff daily (like the areas bordering their country), the more likely some globalist feeling acts as default instead.
