UNGA Upgrades Palestinian Statehood Bid

.
Mothers in Gaza mourning for their dead children, Arafat's body is exhumated in suspection of homicide.... This statehood is just eyewash! Israel will have to answer to the Internation Criminal court for their war crime, illegally occupying palestinian land!! Death to 21st century Nazism!

138 country supported Palestine, while 9 opposed it - they are USA, Canada , Palau, Panama , Marshall Islands , Nauru , Czech Republic, Micronesia and Nazi Israel.

Nothing good will come out of it.
This UN vote will only sink the Palestinian authority even deeper into an obsession with obstinacy in practice and paper victories that mean nothing in the real world. And of course no matter what is said publicly about the unity between Fatah and Hamas, there will be no change on that front either.

@CloakedVeasel,
In Urdu we say: "Khasyani Billi Khamba Noche". In English: Sour Grapes.
If this was all so meaningless then why oppose it so vehemently?
The tyranny of Israel is exposed--and kudos to some hundred brave Israelis who came out today on Tel Avi streets to support the Palestinians.
What the history WILL REMEMBER is that--despite all the pressure, bribing, threats exerted by the mightiest economic power in the world ONLY 9 out of about 200 odd countries in the world did not support Palestinians.

Some of us here stand vindicated in this moment of joy.

Not gonna happen. In order to secure European support, Abbas pledged not to press charges of war or occupation crimes against Israel. A cowardly leader for a brave people -- there's no unhappier nation than the Palestinian people.

You mean India supported Palestinian statehood?

Actually, Abbas didn't agree to the clauses put out by the Europeans, the US and Israel. That's why Britain abstained. The US and Israel would have voted against regardless.
Germany shocked Israel by abstaining, citing the settlements as a reason.

A majority of pro-US countries abstained, a implicit sign of acceptance.
Now Israel is in full damage control, trying to downplay this historic event.

Very good, but expected news.

Thanks for the map Icecreamcart.
The vote is also an implicit acceptance of Israel by Palestinians. Pals are essentially seeking recognition from the same forum that recognized Israel. In doing that, they gave up a lot of their bargaining position by referring to 1967 borders(from a position claiming the whole of Mandated Palestine). Israel also gains from this as they have gained de facto recognition from both Palestinian factions within 1967 borders without giving up anything, without even stopping the settlements. That is why I see this move as submission by PA. And the worst part is that they are the ones who actively pursued it, sort of like walking into a trap. But then it is their leaders and their decision. They chose a practical path instead of sitting on their rightful claims for decades.

At best what they gain is the right to raise issues and create annoyance for Israel at places like ICJ. And it will be fun watching UNGA lose funding from USA. The spectacle of US defunding more and more UN institutions will be even more fun.

The sad part is that the crazies here who roar that Israel should be erased from the map will keep going, even when the Palestinians themselves recognize it.
