Erred? It was the best decision of their life. May God bless them for that. My dada never recovered financially after partition, had to make do with a smalltime government job. But never did he regret his decision. My nana, on the other hand, the Delhi businessman he was, lost his business in 47 and reestablished a huge business in 20 years here. Qismat qismat ki baat.

I feel bad for Naofumi, Xeuss and Jamahir. How daunting it is must be to have your neighbors turn on you, your classmates turn out to hold bigoted views about your community ( just not you cause you're our friend). Reminds me of Saadat Hassan Manto when his Hindu friend said jokingly "If you weren't my friend I would have killed you!"; he decided to move to Pakistan the next day. How stressful must life be in such a situation.

Well, this is the case every country where there is a visible minority (scales differ, of course), Ahmadis in Pakistan, Jews in Europe, Muslims in India - not exactly analogous but you get the drift.
