What's new

Under construction: Vietnam´s 462m skyscraper

Hanoi has at least three times more high rise building than Ho Chi Minh, but ironically few foregn tourist know that, since once leaving airport, crossing Nhat Tan bridge, they will enter the older quarters of Hanoi, which there are few high rise. In addition, there is no high rise in the proper old quarter in Hoan Kiem district. So most of tourists believe Hanoi has only low rise buildings

However, in the western side of city, Hanoi is comparable to Nanning city Quangxi province in number of high rise building.

Mumbai?
lmao....
A 3rd tier city in Vietnam is better.
It is even worse than Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville.

Surpassed Saigon?
Come on!
Don't embarrass Saigon, which was a pretty nice place back in 2012 when i was there...
No problem of walking on the clean streets deep at night.
People were nice, never tried to cheat you like in indian tourist sites.

To all supa powans coming to this thread, the low buildings in the photos are not slums, look not so good but definitely not slums! Clean tap water, electricity and sanitation facilities are ensured there.

ASEAN as whole, could be not rich, but well-off, and generally clean and safe.
actually small houses cost multiple times than appartments. but no matter if highrise or lowrise buildings, nothing goes without a good public infrastrcure. Saigon plans 6 metro lines.

for Vietnam, building metro is a huge challenge, both financially and technicially. a new extended metro plan will connect Saigon to satelitte cities. the first line will become operational in 3 years. if all lines once are put into operation, the city will have one of largest and most modern metros in the world.

That's a very nice network. I do envision Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to become modernized metropolis like Jakarta or Bangkok within a decade or so, High Density + Metro is the way to go.

What I mean is literally re-build the metropolis on metro. Ultra high-density (hi-rise buildings) within 1 km radius of metro stations, and keep the other lands low-density e.g. industrial parks, leisure parks, municipal utilities, low-rise residence, etc.

bro, both Hanoi and Saigon want to become Singapore. people in Vietnam feel offended if you call we want to copy Bangkok and Jakarta.

are you sure not to messed up? Bangkok is way ahead than your Cities let alone Jakarta

It reminds me of the Burj Khalifa:

But that isn't realistic. The next step is Jakarta and Bangkok.
when Hanoi became a modern city with paved roads, Singapore and Jakarta were nothing more than swamplands.
back in 1960, Saigon was much more modern and richer than Bangkok. without having 4 major wars with France, America, China and Cambodia, plus economic and political sanctions until 1990s, devastating entire Vietnam, we were better off today. sure, we are now behind many of our neighbours in the region, next step is to surpass them.

I don't think it is difficult. look they enjoy peace since end of WW II, where they are today? when the people of Europe think of modernity in SE Asia, they think of Singapore. that´s all.

I believe the Saigoner can manage the economy better than Hanoier. two major projects Vietin tower and Hanoi TV Toweri are nowhere near completion.

Vietnam is behind in ASEAN and others are its inspiration.

HCMC is advantageous, better sea resources, weather that foreigners like.
Viet Kieu / MNC are running these projects. I'm from the North, but South will be the better part of Vietnam.
