Unconfirmed: Blast in TTP Headquarter in Kunar Afghanistan

Drone strike on Pakistani Taliban leader fails to explode, Taliban sources say

PESHAWAR, Pakistan, Dec 16 (Reuters) - A drone strike hit a house just inside Afghanistan's border with Pakistan, apparently targeting a senior member of the Pakistani Taliban, but the missile failed to explode, Pakistani Taliban sources said on Thursday.

One of the Taliban officials said the drone fired a missile at a hujra, or guesthouse on the compound of Maulvi Faqir Mohammad, a senior leader of the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan movement (TTP).
"It was around 3:30 when a drone suddenly appeared in the sky. We got worried and advised Maulvi Faqir to go to a safe place but he refused and argued it was not possible to hide in the day time," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Around half an hour later, when Faqir Mohammad left his own house to visit the guesthouse, the missile struck.
"He was about 3 metres away from the hujra room when the drone fired a missile and hit the same room. Luckily the missile didn’t explode and he and other people around him remained safe," he said.

Faqir Mohammad is a former deputy leader of the TTP who spent eight years in Afghanistan's Bagram prison before being released by the Afghan Taliban following their shock overthrow of the Western-backed government in Kabul on Aug. 15.

The apparent attempt to kill him in a drone strike came after talks to agree a permanent ceasefire between the TTP and the Pakistani government broke down last week after the militant movement refused to extend a 30 day truce. read more

The TTP, which has fought for years to overthrow the government in Islamabad, is a separate movement from the Afghan Taliban but TTP fighters and senior leaders have long been known to shelter in the lawless eastern border regions of Afghanistan.

This is the most credible information regarding this attack. Also adds into the report published by BBC Urdu.

@Imran Khan han bhai kia hoa peace deal ka TTP sa ?

People with slightest of wisdom would say it was because of that peace deal offer rejection by TTP that are being hit by taliban now. This was another master stroke by king Khan while patwaris are busy celebrating 38th day of wedding in the king's family as King's family shows off their stolen wealth.

i am surprised they dont have 2nd missile if one did not exploded ?

The issue can crop up with munition from any where, the bigger news is that Pak is now operating UAVs over AF. If they didn’t get him yesterday, they’d get him tomorrow. He’s toast.

If it is indeed true and from a PA drone then it might have unexploded for a reason. Perhaps to send a warning shot that we know where you are. if TTP do not retreat then hellfire missiles are on the way.

.
How cute. We have 1.7 million soldiers in the army and para military all ready to beat the shit out of the TTP and any other threat to Pakistan. Stamina is cute. Have they forgotten all the operations in the past that slaughtered tens of thousands of them?

The US is no longer in Afghanistan nor is Ghani or India. The game has changed

Ok then, show us the missile. Oh wait... 2 dead TTP terrorists will be shown next to it. Propaganda smh

That guy doesn't even live in Waziristan all the TTP fanboy monkeys are all Paktiawal Afghans living in London

yea thats what i am thinking or maybe it was just to test it out because the biggest risk if drones are civillian casualties.

Imran Khan will allow to strike in
Afganistan? Am I day dreaming?
His insane policy of peace talk with terrorist is harming Pakistan. I fear even if TTP kill everyone here and if Imran Khan remains last survivor, he will still prefer peace talk and say that They are own people, they are poor, they need jobs and Blah blah .

Quality control is a common issue with shortkut Pakistanis. This is the nation that crashed a F-16 by using a Mirage part and delivered by civic to me with the steering wheel mounted upside down.

In seriousness, if the first one hit you have already altered the target and they are gone before you even get the second one off the rail.

We need to play the game properly, no rules, no gloves. Decimate them and their families - like the Israeli's do.

Israel is a tiny, middle income security state (highly surveilled, military censor for the media, entire nation against terrorists, etc.) with a very small and easy-to-monitor population. The Palestinians don't have an entire porous border or mountains to hide in, nor do they have millions of sympathizers within Israel.

Our problem is that this is way beyond a military solution.

Contradictory claims after TTP compound hit by missile in Afghanistan

The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed that a compound of TTP leader Maulvi Faqir Mohammad has been attacked in a drone strike in Afghanistan’s Kunar province. However, the Afghan Taliban say that three rockets were fired from Pakistan.

The reports about the drone attack surfaced on social media on Thursday night.
The Reuters news agency said the compound of Fariq Mohammad was targetted using a single missile that failed to explode.
A TTP ‘official’ told the news agency that a drone launched the missile at around 4pm on Thursday.
Half an hour before the attack when the drone appeared in the sky, Faqir Mohammad was asked to relocate to a safer place but he refused, saying it was not possible to hide in broad daylight, according to the TTP man who was not identified by the news agency.

The attack came as Faqir Mohammad was inspecting the guesthouse and the missile landed only three metres away from him, the report said.
However, BBC Pashto cited Bilal Karimi, the deputy spokesman for the Afghan Taliban, as saying that the reports of drone strikes were incorrect and instead “there have been rocket attacks by Pakistan in the region.”
He said three rockets were fired from Pakistani territory.
Karimi did not say who was targeted in the attack but said the rockets had hit the mountains, according to the BBC.
Pakistani officials have not commented on the report so far.

The alleged attack against Faqir Mohammad came amid reports that the TTP had ended a ceasefire with the Pakistani government.
Top Pakistani officials including the prime minister and foreign minister have said that Islamabad wants to engage the TTP in talks provided it abides by the Constitution of Pakistan.
The Afghan Taliban have reportedly urged Pakistan to hold negotiations with and offer pardon to the TTP.
However, in a recent with Arab News Afghan Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid dismissed the claim that TTP was an affiliate of Afghanistan’s Taliban.
Attacks since the end of the ceasefire
The ceasefire between Pakistan and TTP lasted from November 9 to December 9. The banned outfit claims it has renewed its campaign against Pakistani forces launching five attacks, two in Bajaur, two in North Waziristan and one in Tank district.
