Unbeleivable: Tamil Nadu Sought American Help for Independence from India in 1975

Independent Tamil Nadu is our birthright!

Kerala, AP, and Karnataka will divert all the rivers of our states away from TN within a few months of any such stupidity as a Free TN happening. You will have to live on marina beach and drink saltwater from Bay of Bengal.

Tamil Nadu is bigger than 63% of countries in population and land area (not tiny as you call it). We can take care of ourself.

Hindi states would be among the lowest in industrialization if South and Maharashtra were to leave India. You will be going around in donkey carts with a few cars for your favourite politicians.

First of all none of the Southern states leave alone Maharashtra will think of leaving India. Next, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, and Gujarat are also as developed as TN. So don't live under any wrong illusion of being somewhat unique. You are not.

That guy mixes his religious feelings and gives a colour of Tamil nationalism. His thoughts are from Quran.

I know or maybe he is a periyar follower. Those nutcases are just like him. They lost all the seats they contested in the elections so badly that they could not even retain their deposits. Still does not stop these numbnuts from projecting themselves as some sort of Tamil National heroes.

Perhaps USA may have tried to help Tamil Nadu get independence in 1975.

Isn't this kvpak the same dufus who claimed that his friend was standing in the election and his Slogan was independence or something . He would have got exactly two votes for that party

1975 was 40 years ago ...fortunes have wildly changed for TN since then ...from an industrial laggard and one of the bottom 3 states in the 70s, today it is the second most industrialised state in India after Maharashtra and second richest state by GDP . All this is would not have happened if Tn had not been with India .....

Here is the cable from US Consulate in Madras to Washington dated July 3, 1975 in its entirety.

1. I called on Tamil Nadu minister of labor and housing Rajaram at his residence last evening, and presented him a copy of the latest foreign service newsletter in which his picture with secretary Simon appears. The minister immediately asked what my reaction was to what had happened in India. I began to reply along the lines that a lot had happened since we last met. He interrupted and said: "I'm glad you came by because I was going to contact you. I want to ask you a leading question. Would the United States give assistance to us if Tamil Nadu decided to become independent?" I said I would reply equally directly, and the answer was no; this was an internal affair of India and we supported the territorial integrity of India and other countries. I asked if this was something that was being seriously considered. He said no, not at the highest levels; the DMK had several years ago abandoned secession as a policy.

But a lot of the younger people in the party have been talking about it in the past few days. These younger people, he said, are saying that the USSR and other communist countries are backing Mrs. Gandhi in her efforts to kill democracy here; if this succeeds, communist influence will grow, and Tamil Nadu should secede and the question of whether the U.S. would help has been discussed. That was why, the minister said, he had wanted to raise the matter with me.

total bullcrap, there is resistance against cultural imposition from north but to say tamil nadu sought independence is like saying pigs can fly. There are many other states in India which are fiercely proud and resist non local interference. At this rate we should say even mumbai wanted independence bcos it was getting swamped by ppl from bihar & UP.
You can stand up for your rights
guess who are the ppl who fight for so called rights? The one who makes the money. If there was indeed so much support things would have been totally different by now. These are the ppl who cannot gain power by democracy hence indulge in other ways to grab power or seek attention.

Nothing wrong in trying..But very difficult to achieve, especially from India.
