So , what makes you think that it would remain same for Pakistan ? Please , dont try to convince a convinced man about the ' American friends ' part . You know how much I detest the Pakistani one sided foreign policies since its independence , except for money transfer to numbered accounts in Zurich and messed up country , nothing we have gained . But , it doesn't mean that US didn't have to appease and provide concessions for Pakistan along the way , not enough , but not something that wasn't there . I am not expecting any miracles out of this , I just said that without Islamabad doing anything much , something good is happening to the cause .

You aren't going ahead with Civil Nuclear Deal thing with the Americans ? I have always admired your foreign policy but that is another thing .

Yes we have , only time will tell , what this results into . Because , not many times , I have seen the UN get involved . The dynamics of the region are changing fast , remember , its getting unpredictable for different thing . I dont see a war , at best a limited scale conflict if this escalation continues . We fought a war after it , sure , but did anybody dare cross the International Border ? The reason is well known . I know the friendship of the so called ' brothers ' , dont convince a convinced man again . As for the last line , you know I do not believe in no-win scenarios

It hasn't remained the same. In fact Pakistan's standing and influence have been further diluted by the actions of its very own policy makers, by legally allowing an ally to overtly bomb your populace, by cultivating a severe dependency upon certain nations etc. Nor is there a chance that Pakistan will ever be able to pull more weight on the matter than us.

Brother, the US does indeed try to provide concessions. But compare the scale and quantum of these concessions to the things we have simply bought right off of them. Why have such a comparison at all? Just to gain some clarity and some perspective. You see your line of thinking here would be rather apt if you were referring to Pakistan wanting to purchase additional F-16s for fighting terrorists, in such terms the US will indeed placate Pakistan. At the same time the US is unwilling to do anything on a scale larger than that. They aren't even ready to let you exercise your own sovereign prerogative over building a damn pipeline. So will they continue to appease you? Yes, they will continue to do so, in the same manner as they have before. But the US can't get you Kashmir, nor is it willing to undertake on your behalf a task of such a scale (as proved amply by their track record of the last 60 odd years). So it is rather specious to assert that any concession from the US will ever get you what you really want. So when every thing is said and done any concession that you are able to drag out of the Americans will be irrelevant to the issue at hand or even remotely alter the status quo.

In fact the only concession the US will and has provided consistently over the last two decades or more is treating the insurgency in Kashmir as a separate matter rather than as an extension of global terrorism as such, beyond which even in their most explicit statements they will (and have done so every single time) take great pains to enunciate the fact that it is a bilateral matter and that all related policies/actions/considerations are under the purview of the two nations concerned. Any statement they release in the future will stress upon the same point with the addendum that they hope that violence shall subside and peace shall be given a chance.

Islamabad is expending quite a bit of effort over this my friend, you know exactly what such efforts involve. And when the poison they have pumped into the same old channels as before percolates down again into the common populace, well you've already seen the result of the so called "blowbacks". Do you think this is the first time we have had an escalation? We have had such flare ups again and again, have you ever seen anyone provide anything more then some soundbites? The UN SG has made this same offer before (bare in mind that any offer by the SG does not remotely equate to even a resolution by the general assembly leave alone the security council and India has swept past those too for the last 65 odd years), do you expect the UN to intercede on your behalf by forcing us to relent? You know full well that there are only five nations which matter in that equation- all of them have, for their own reasons, washed their hands off of this.

Yaara you've already lost in terms of attempting to annex the valley or executing a successful secession. At best now you can continue causing limited attrition beyond which there isn't a country which will cross us over this issue for your sake, neither those who claim to be the closest to you nor those who are hostile towards us (and you know that's not hyperbole- as is evident, again, from the track record of such nations).

EDIT:- The US will get the benefit of the civil nuclear deal once we are satisfied that they can meet our concerns regarding safety and liability- which is a non issue as far as we are concerned since what we needed was the waiver only.

TBH , I would say that this current series of incidents along the LOC is a blessing in disguise for Pakistan - seconding your post last night , nothing can unite the country more than the Indian threat and nothing will worry the world more , than escalation between two nuclear powers and a remote possibility of war .

Can Pakistan really handle this situation in a way that, they emerge with better gains??

The internal divisions within Pakistan are so big that any give and take will be taken as backstabbing by the whole nation. Practically the TTP etc will get support from the whole nation in this matter, making you more chaotic.

For such exercises all the parties should be on same page to succeed.
