UN: major Chinese cities at same level of development as developed countries

The president-elect Donald Trump on Infrastructure:

Our airports are like from a Third World country,” Trump ranted. “You land at LaGuardia, you land at Kennedy, you land at LAX, you land at Newark, and you come in from Dubai and Qatar and you see these incredible ― you come in from China, you see these incredible airports, and you land ― we’ve become a Third World country.”
He can do nothing about it.....his whole country is being hijacked by military complex.

While in Kunming, the 3rd largest city of Southwest China,
will witness inauguration of 3 High-speed Railways 3 weeks later.
Kunming's new HSR hub, Kunming South Station, dubbed as "Peacock South" to open soon.

Europe don't really have the population to build large size cities or they are too spread out. They all look tiny in comparison to Asian cities.
China also has such cities, hundreds of smaller townships or bigger county towns.
They are the backbone of China's regional economy.
4/5th level cities + counties + townships = China's development potential in the next 2 decades.
But even in 1-3tier cities, the potential is also huge, for example the Optics Valley in my city.

4-5 tier city
Anshun, Guizhou Province, Southwest China
安顺廊桥.jpg

County
Xunyang County, Shannxi Province, Northwest China
陕西旬阳县.jpg

Town/township
Tucheng Town, Guizhou Province

Remember, China is big developing country with a big population.
Urbanisation rate is still low!
Potential is huge.....
Much should be done before 2020.

I do hope he can start thinking about "Building" after so many years of "Bombing"

Trump is a real estate tycoon, he will use the office of the presidency to enrich his business empire which his 3 kids will try to run now. I'm willing to give him a chance, no one likes Hillary anyway (democrats shot themselves in the foot by forcing the nomination, now they pay for it)

Lived in Shanghai for a few years as an expat, and watched countless new infrastructures popping up in front of my eyes.

When I came back, I was pleased that my 6 year old DVD for my GPS worked great just like 6 years ago. No new roads, freeways, bridges, landmarks.....No need to update at all. :P
Shanghai?
I've been studying and living there for many years.....
Nothing impressive to me.
It is built on the flat land.

The first time I felt really impressed was when I was traveling to Chongqing.
Chongqing Municipality is huge, we have just inaugurated a new high-speed railway there linking the main Chongqing City to Wanzhou District 250km away.

Chongqing-Wanzhou High-speed Railway to open on 28 November

The main city and Chongqing's remote counties are built on the mountains or deep in the valleys....
Western China is where the Chinese engineering really stands out.

I've been to the main city, and several districts (Hechuan, Dazu) and counties (Wushan, Fengjie, Wulong) in Chongqing Municipality.
Every time I was shocked......
That should be the paradigm in Western China...
The organic integration of tradition and modernity is fascinating...

Major Chinese cities are top class cities in the world, Beijing and Shanghai have the best and longest road, subway systems in the whole world, all facilites like sports arenas , theaters ,museums, public schools, hospitals, airports, ports...are second to none. Major Chinese cities definitely put all western cities in shame in terms of modernization. So we should not compare with increasingly declining western cities.
What makes a city great, is subjective.

Some cities are tourist-magnets and some beacons of modernization. To elaborate this further; China has enormous land to build new cities from scratch but UK can modernize London to an extent.

Actually our "good" land is not big.
China is largely a mountainous country.
We have to build cities and townships in very complicated conditions....

No surprise to me. It is well known China had change A LOT over the past 5-10 years. My family all said that when they visited back to hometown. Everything changed and more new building rise up every day.

.
One thing: China encourages flats for living in the cities or separate houses are also allowed?

I see that.

However, my point is that China is building new cities from scratch. Therefore, these cities can be expected to be much better planned than cities that have existed for a long time.

To explain my point; the new areas of Lahore (near the airport) are much better planned and open than the relatively much older congested areas. It is really expensive and difficult to redesign those older areas due to the challenge of relocating the masses, compensation and shortage of funds. The Metro projects are facing the heat due to this situation.

China is modernizing itself in a brilliant manner however. It has the financial muscle and political will to make it happen.

Downtown and inner suburbs are mostly high-rises....
Outer suburbs have a lot of houses....
The closer to the downtown the more expensive....

I saw those photos and videos of Lahore, pretty nice.

The number one development theme in those big cities in China is not building new districts from scratch, but "urban redevelopment". Take my city for example, within the 20km*20km core city region, there were a lot of ill-planned blocks. They have been rebuilt one by one. Of course, building news suburbs is also important, but much easier.

This region was rebuilt on the original dormitories of some factories, is a good example of urban redevelopment.
When the project is ongoing, residents will be given money to rent. Once finished, they will move back.
The company responsible for it (China's biggest property group Wanda) must preserve a number of apartments for these residents.

Urban redevelopment always leads to high-rises.....
Because the density in situ is really high, especially when combined with new shopping malls and business buildings.

To further understand the process,
there is a link to my previous post about urban redevelopment in Guizhou City
