UNITED NATIONS: United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon stands ready to mediate peace talks between Pakistan and India amid heightening tensions, provided the two neighbours accept his good offices, a spokesman said on Wednesday.

“Good offices is a standing offer,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said at the regular noon briefing in reply to a question from a journalist who referred to ongoing clashes in India-held Kashmir and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement in which he also blamed the news media for inflaming the situation.

He underscored that the secretary general’s good offices worked only when both parties agreed to mediation. He said the UN chief had always encouraged direct talks between the two countries for the resolution of their outstanding issues.

.
That's as far as Pakistan's quest for raising Kashmir issue in UN goes. Now let India control her people in Kashmir.

Any guesses how much does it cost to highlight an issue at International forum ?

What If the Journalist fails to elicit the desired response and gets only a stock reply ?

Would Pakistan consider this humiliation as her utter diplomatic failure or will Pakistan console herself for at least getting the media coverage of her defeat :undecided:

Nothing new.
He said back in 2010 too that UN will mediate only if BOTH India and Pakistan demand UN mediation.

.
It's good that Secretary Moon is offering mediation, even if the Indians will not take it.

The world is watching. Perhaps not very closely, but they are watching.

.
Thank you Mr Ki-moon. You don't know how uncomfortable this will make the already flustered Bharatis. :D

The 'muscular Modi doctrine' can only fail here. If India only resorts to violent chest-thumping, insisting there will be no mediation while slaughtering Kashmiris and blaming Pakistan, the world will see India's true intentions. I don't think Modi and his team have enough tact to pull something off, though.

.
Pakistan is wrong here, UN was always ready for mediation, so there is no point in convincing them, it is india who is not ready.
So pakistan is banging against wrong doors.

Pakistan should be convincing INDIA to come to table, UN was never a problem.
