United Nations, Feb 7 - UN chief Ban Ki-moon has appealed to eight countries, including India, to ratify the CTBT to bring the global nuclear test ban into force.

The UN secretary general made the appeal after Indonesia became the 157th country to adopt the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).

Besides India, China, North Korea, Egypt, Iran, Israel, Pakistan and the US are the other nations in a core group of 44 nuclear countries which did not ratify the treaty.

The 44 nations which must ratify the CTBT to bring it into force all have nuclear weapons or atomic programmes.

This would accelerate the entry of CTBT into force, Ban said after his meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa at the UN headquarters.

During their meeting, Ban stressed the importance of Indonesia's ratification of the CTBT given that the country is one of the so-called Annex 2 States, whose endorsement is required for the treaty to enter into force, a UN release said.

. . . . . .
if P5 wants us to give up our nuclear weapons they should themself get rid of theirs first since they were the one who tested it frst
why the hell are pre 1967 nuclear powers are given unfairly the right to posses nuclear weapons while we don't have the same
for a nuclear weapon free world every nation must giveup their nuclear weapons irrespective of when they tested it

.
recently some british scientist was saying that Indian Hydrogen bomb was a fuss..
even many countries believe that our fission bombs are also fuss, then why to sign the treaty when we do not have the bomb? nonsense!

Tell the US to lead the way first Mr. UN... & then bring China,Pakistan & India on the same table to sign it... till then don`t expect India to sign any of these treaties that prevent us to do any test on our nukeeees...:fie:

isn't the topic a bit misleading one

India still needs to test thermo-nuclear weapons. The treaty is against the interests of the nation.
