Rs 420,000 spent to deport one Bangladeshi from Assam

GUWAHATI: Believe it or not, the Indian government spends an astounding Rs.424,000 to formally detect and push back an illegal Bangladeshi migrant from Assam.

Assam spent Rs.410 million between January 2001 and December 2009 in identifying 33,922 foreigners, of whom just 174 could be deported back to Bangladesh.

"This is true that the cost is enormous in detecting and then pushing back an illegal migrant...cost incurred by police and expenditure by tribunals," Minister for Assam Accord Implementation Bhumidhar Barman told the state assembly Tuesday.

The influx of illegal migrant workers from Bangladesh is a major problem across the northeast, resulting in frequent clashes between border guards of the two countries.

No official figures are available of the number of illegal migrants staying in Assam, who sneak in taking advantage of the unfenced border. However, estimates vary from one million to 10 million.

Assam had witnessed a six-year long anti-foreigners' agitation from 1979, spearheaded by the powerful All Assam Students Union (AASU), culminating in the Assam Accord of 1985.

Under the accord, March 1971 was taken as the cut-off date - anybody entering India after that would be detected and deported. But so far just 1,428 Bangladeshis have been pushed back since 1985.

"This is a shame on the part of the government to have spent a fortune in the name of hounding Bangladeshis, but the end result is a big zero," Keshab Mahanta, a lawmaker of the opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), said in reply to the minister.

Assam shares a 272-km border with Bangladesh, of which about 85 percent has been fenced with barbed wires. Concrete pillars separate the remaining stretch of the border. The entire border is expected to be fenced by the year-end.

There are fears that the unabated influx of Bangladeshis would soon overwhelm the indigenous Assamese. Bangladesh denies allegations that it encourages people to enter India illegally.

The tardy pace of detection and deportation was earlier blamed on the controversial Illegal Migrants (Determination by Tribunals) Act (IMDT). The Supreme Court in July 2005 struck down the legislation citing major flaws and replaced it with the Foreigners Act of 1946.

The IMDT Act was enacted to identify illegal Bangladeshis in 1985 during the height of AASU's oust-Bangladeshi movement.

Under the Foreigners Act, 32 tribunals were set up to speed up the process of detection of illegal Bangladeshis.

"There are no judges in 13 of the tribunals and hence we are having difficulties in the entire process," Barman said

"No matter how many legislations you have, the process of identifying and proving beyond doubt that someone is an illegal foreigner is an arduous task. Moreover, it is always very difficult to distinguish a Bangladeshi from an Assamese as they resemble very much the same and in the border areas they speak the same dialect," said a police officer.

Another problem is related to deportation once someone is proved to be an illegal migrant. Once he is taken to the border and pushed back, Bangladeshi frontier guards invariably force him to re-enter India.

"It is true that some of those pushed back by us entered India once again using a different border route," the minister said.

They can't catch any cause there aren't that many. A reasonable person would come to that conclusion. Thats how the Border Petrol draws conclusions in US.

This clearly demonstrates how average troll buys the BS from their media and runs with it. Extra ordinary claims require extra ordinary evidence, lack of that evidence the claim becomes a large pile of BS.

BSF was useless that is why on an average 1370 people were able to enter india daily in the last 40 years if we need to take your claim 20 million bangladeshis are there in india... what your bsf were doing daily then.. drunken and sleeping... what else... they kill mostly innocent civilians mostly those who live in the border area ... instead of illegal migrants...just to show that they are active and hide the failure that 1370 people are entering under their nose daily...

The difference between BSF and BDR is thst BDR only killed BSF when it tried to enter bd with arms but it does not kill civilians without arm... if that would be the case then BDR would kill the 80 indian those who entered bd to take harvest...

Yes they were drunk and were sleeping ..but now they have woken up and have real bad hangover so better not cross the border these days and tell your friends back home the same.

And less said about BDR's achievements the better.
Hint.
Indians come and steel your fish, paddy, 166 acres of land ..but still nothing. :azn:

Do not forget that this is the BDR that traced the theft by BSF.... of 166 acre of land which indians stolen in 1971....

So what ever a thief do he/she is bound to be detected...

Bangladeshis aren't migrating India(Assam) because of better life rather we have other plan to implement. A green Assam is well within our forecast. :smokin:

You should try to first implement it in your now "secular" Bangladesh

.
I bet all the Bangladeshi members posting here have some relatives living in India. All the Bangladeshis i know here in Australia happen to have half of their family living in India, not just Hindus but Muslim Bangladeshis too. And i know quite a lot of Bangladeshis. Which explains the uneasiness the Bangladeshi members show in discussing such topics:P

Tbh though i love Bangladeshi people and if i was the Prime Minister of India i would start giving temporary workers visa to Bangladeshis, so that they can come to India legally without getting shot at by BSF, earn their livelihood and then go back to Bangladesh when they have made enough money . As long as they dont bad mouth and commit crimes against my country:sniper: :D

.
Then you claim BSF is a brutal organisation..see how lineant they were with on you people...then you killed 18 of theirs ..now they are killing thousands of you..didn't I say this was all your own doing. :azn:

18 BSF troops killed by BDR. Thousands of unarmed people killed by BSF. How many BDR personnel could your BSF manage to kill during last 10 years? BSF can only kill unarmed civilians 'cause that's all they're capable of. Bunch of cowards. Killing unarmed people is easy. We could simply return the favor but we're not inhumane like BSF. You just proved yourself a shameless jack*** as you know the truth and pretend you don't.

We didn't forget the facts, apparently Indian folks have been deprived of the facts by the Indian Govt.

India has destroyed most of the official records of the war with Pakistan in 1971 that led to the liberation of Bangladesh, leading Indian newspaper The Times of India reported on Sunday.

The destroyed files include those on the creation of the Mukti Bahini, all appreciation and assessments made by the Indian army during the war period, the orders issued to fighting formations, and other sensitive operational details, according to the report published on the front page.

Quoting ‘authoritative army sources’ the report said all records of the period, held at the Eastern Command of the Indian army headquarters in Kolkota were destroyed immediately after the 1971 war. “This had remained secret until now,” the daily claimed.

There is more to the story that meet your eyes.

Also, do not forget the fact only 1300 of Indian troops were killed in that war of 1971. So, who were the other many lakhs of deaths? Was it not our Muktis? What the IA troops were doing miles behind when our Muktis were fighting the PA in Dec. 1971? Don't you think we already know the morals of Indian troops? Why do you pay salaries to these cowards?

Muktis paid the price by giving their blood to win a war against Pakistan. But, somehow India became a champion of that war without fighting a real war. Now, try another war alone with your panicked and coward BSF and IA, be it in the eastern or in the western front. You will see how many heads will fall in your side and how many on the other side.

Bwahahaha! Do you even think before you type anything at all.... So you mean to say India will lose a war with Bangladesh. May be you should seriously introspect where your country stands militarily, economically and strategically and then try posting. May be it will make a little more sense. You guys are getting funnier by the day. Pathetic!

Talking about cowardice, Your Mukthi Bahini died in scores not because they were brave but because they didn't know to fight. You guys don't have an iota of respect for either for the Indian soldiers who fought in war or your own Mukthi Bahini guys. If not the public won't be letting BNP to have 71 war criminals in its party not will you be shamefully complaining about the Indian soldiers "stealing" your fish after the war.:hang2:
