According to 2014 Reporters Without Borders report, Syria, Palestine, Ukraine, Iraq and Libya have been named the deadliest countries for reporters. Conflict-torn Ukraine has become the worst country for journalists’ abductions, murders and attacks. Since May to August 2014 6 journalists died in Ukraine, dozens of reporters were attacked or physically threatened. Many journalists had to leave Ukraine being afraid for their lives. It all started after the advocates of Ukrainian integral nationalism came to power as a result of coup in February 2014. The new ideology was formed by Ukrainian fascists in 1920-1940s. It’s a mixture of Italian fascism and German Nazism adapted to Ukrainian realities.
The new regime in Kiev pursues the goal of eliminating all dissent in the country. In late January Lviv-based journalist Gleb Gonchar disclosed the information about the decision of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council to establish total control over Ukraine’s segment of Internet, cable TV, press and even crackdowns against those who disseminated anti-Ukrainian views, including the use of force against “the enemies of the state”. This information is still partly classified. Some nationalist neo-Nazi websites started to make public personal data on opposition and public activists opposed to the government. Anton Gerashchenko, deputy head of the Ukrainian Internal Affairs Ministry, announced the creation of joint database to be used by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service and other intelligence agencies and border guards to launch lawsuits against those who have fallen out of favor with the regime.
About 200 thousand “state enemies” include the volunteers of Donetsk and Luhansk republics self-defense forces, Ukrainian and Russian politicians, public figures and journalists. They all oppose the war in the east of Ukraine and neo-Nazi ideology.
A number of political assassinations and murders under strange circumstances proves that the crackdown against dissenters in gaining momentum. Olga Moroz, the editor of "Neteshinsky Vestnik", was found dead in her flat. Moroz had been working on material about deforestation. The company which belongs to the husband of former Lviv governor Irina Sech was involved in illegal exports of timber abroad. The money was used to fund Svoboda, a neo-Nazi political party, one of the groups that organized Maidan.
The leader of the opposition Workers' Party of Ukraine, the editor-in-chief of newspaper Working Class, People's Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of III and IV convocations, Alexander Bondarchuk was arrested in early April. He is persecuted for spreading around “anti-government” information which, as special servicers affirm, contains “indirect propaganda of separatism.”
SergeySukhobok, a well-known Ukrainian journalist and editor ofObkomand ProUA online media outlets, was murderedon the night ofApril13 in Kiev. He died in a drunken brawl with neighbors. The criminal rate in Ukraine is extremely high and the use of arms is widely spread. Former adviserof the Interior MinisterKonstantin Stohnii said law enforcement agencies lost 16 700 firearms being used here and there across Ukraine.
On April 15, Oleg Kalashnikov, a former MP from the Party of Regions, was found dead from gunshot wounds in his apartment block. Ukrainian media reported that before the murder Kalashnikov received threats of physical violence for his political views from Mirotvoretz (Peacekeeper) internet outlet controlled by assistant Interior Minister (It’s worth to note that Mirotvoretz site uses NATO web server).
Oleg Kalashnikov, the head of Public Council of Ukraine and editor of its website, intended to make his supporters go to the streets to mark the 70th anniversary of victory over fascist Germany. It’s a violation of law in the contemporary Ukraine. Giving out the black-yellow Ribbon of Saint George symbolizing the heroism of those who defeated Nazism (Kalashnikov did it every year) is a crime to be punished by a 10-year prison sentence (punished more severely than manslaughter). Kalashnikov was killed near his residence. Before that Mirotvoretz made public his personal data, including home address. It posted a message to Twitter expressing gratitude and accelerated promotion “for the mission dutifully accomplished”.
Ukrainian journalist Oles Buzina was killed by two masked gunmen in the yard of his house in Kiev on April 16. There were four shots, one on the head and four in the chest. Mirotvoretz published information about him painting him as “an enemy of state”. Then the word “eliminated” appeared near his name. The website editors posted a message “Agent 404 has distinguished himself again. He was given a short time vacation for successful accomplishment of the mission”. Before that they had tried twice to kill Buzina who was known for his anti-fascist views. In May 2009 the journalist proposed a package of laws to ban neo-Nazi organizations and propaganda, including the ideology of Ukrainian nationalists (OUN) as a totalitarian fascist party (Ukrainian authorities call them “the heroes of national movement”). Buzina won 11 lawsuits since 2000 - till 2009.
A bit more than a month ago Ukrainian media suddenly informed about the death of Buzina. Itwasawarning. The verdict had been handed down. The execution took place on April 16 and the mysterious “agent 404” under the command of assistant Interior Minister who got a leave as a reward for efficient “mission accomplishment.”
After the murder of Charlie Hebdo journalists people in Europe hit the streets of European cities with placards Je Suis Charlie, including those whodid not like the cartoonists. The reaction of Ukrainian opponents of Oles Buzina and Oleg Kalashnikov was quite different. Soon after his death, a member of the nationalist Svoboda party and a former Verkhovna Rada lawmaker Iryna Farion, notorious for her radical views, described the late author as a “degenerate” and a “devilish creation” and sent him down the “history’s sewers” on her Facebook page, “Degenerate Buzina was killed. Perhaps this impudent death will somehow neutralize the dirt this [word expelled] had spilled. Such ones are not talked round. Such ones come to the earth for us to clean ourselves of mental slit and create a spiritual vertical. Such ones go to the history's sewers. Their surnames are deantroponymized in course of time. Although in this case the deantroponymization was in the very beginning. Buzina was a devilish creation. Gloom on him and nonexistence," she wrote. Other advocates of Ukrainian Nazism and Buzina’s opponents, joined in. Over 200 people “Liked” the post of Roman Bochkala, a journalist working for Ukrainian Inter TV channel, who wrote, “At last somebody killed Kalashnikov!”
Not a single man in Europe or the United States went to the streets carrying a Je Suis Bouzina poster to protest the assassination of fearless journalist who fought the revived Ukrainian Nazism.
The West turns a blind eye on the connivance of Kiev at Nazis and the fact that Ukrainian special services sponsor serial political murders hoping to turn Ukraine into an enemy of Russia.
