Ukraine to Deliver 110 Battle Tank Engines to Pakistan

But Pakistan seems to be using tank made by China...I may be wrong..then why do you need it from Ukraine?

design is chinese but engine and power-pack is from ukraine. electronics are western.

you forgot your governments 60 year lap dancing to Russia....LOL

My impression is that India does not have any close friend in like Pakistan has like China...So India want to keep a balance by maintaining close defence relation with multiple vendor....I may be wrong in my assessment too...

Why not get license manufecturing?

Why not TOT???

We should have our engine program started now

You can make engines for tanks, or planes. But both are very crucial in the field and you need reliability. One guesses why PAF operates RD-93 and looking for better RD-93 variants over WS-13. Pakistan can start developing both engines, indigenous or ToT but it will take a decade before you are mature and reliable to be send forward to frontline.

Well you gotta start somewhere if you start today then 10 years down the line you would have an operational engine that you could use your own engine rather than the buying from a foreign country which would cut down on the cost and generate jobs. So at this point the government or MoD of Pakistan should start at creating the base for the engine development for air crafts, tanks and other military systems.

Does Pakistan have a JV with China for the WS-13 engine?

Yes you got to start from some point which should be withing next 3-5 years, but you cannot produce them for Al-Khalid or JF-17 as I pointed out. For a future platform which should be 100% homemade.

No involvement.

if someone have news about the engine specs we can have an idea of what Tank it will fit in. If it is 1200 Hp then it will be Ak-I but if the new engines are 1500hp or above then it mean Ak-II is around the the corner. :)

anyone have details?

regards!

There were at least two different tenders for 6-td-2 engines, first was for 285, second was never published so we dont know how many are in service. However, the issuance of this tender seems interesting as the make is not mentioned, my guess is it could be for more AK-1s or IF its 6-td3, then its for AK-2.

Time will tell.

We are making 530hp, 760hp tank engines locally, based on Ukrainian and Chinese technologies respectively. We have repair and maintenance facility for 6-td (T-80ud) and 6-td-2 (AK, AK-1) series in place so no need to license manufacture them, if need arises, it will be done. Cooperation with Ukraine is not just engine and transmission limited, but ammunition, armour, reactive armour and some undisclosed goodies also included. There is a lot going on behind the curtain.
