KIEV, December 17. /TASS/. Ukrainian authorities have set an ambitious task of building one of the strongest armies in Europe and bring Crimea back from Russia, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Oleksadr Turchynov said on Wednesday.
The country’s Defense Ministry and the Interior Ministry will get a more than 10% share in the total budget spending for 2015 estimated at $31 billion. A total of 5% of gross domestic product (GDP) of cash-strapped Ukraine will go to the army.

“We need to create one of the strongest armies in Europe, and we have no other alternative,” Turchynov said. “Our war will end only when the whole territory of Ukraine is freed, including Crimea,” he said.

Turchynov, a former speaker of the country’s parliament who was appointed as the council’s new chief on Tuesday, said one of the first steps is to increase the army reserve to 100,000 people.

Ukraine plans to increase by 100% the country’s military spending next year to 50 billion hryvnias (some $3.2 billion), Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak said last week.

Ukraine may create nuclear bomb in 10 years — experts

Some 40,000 people will be called up for Ukrainian military service next year, bringing the number of troops to 250,000, the minister said. The United States and the European Union will provide funding for the military reform in Ukraine.
According to official data, Ukraine’s external debt has already reached $72.9 billion, and so far $14 billion has been repaid. Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said last week the country’s gold and foreign currency reserves dropped below $10 billion, and there were no grounds to expect them to increase.

Meanwhile, the increase in Ukraine’s military budget will be apparently at the expense of social spending. The government has already announced plans to cut state spending on the social sphere by almost $1 billion.

Ukraine’s Finance Ministry has introduced a new social policy under which some 100,000 teachers are to be sacked over two years. Currently, the number of unemployed in the country with a 42 million-strong population reaches 2 million. The spending on Ukraine’s science and education will also be cut by $200 million. Over 400 schools in rural areas will be closed, and some social benefits, including free meals and extra payment for academic degrees, will be scrapped.

Don't dismiss Ukraine so early.Ukraine is not Georgia,a tiny little country isolated in Caucasus. It is a country which had one third of industrial capacity of USSR.It is true that last two decades was not good for Ukraine.A Russian style corruption,non-liberization and oligarchy hold it back. Now free from the Russian clutch it can pursue transparency,Economic reform and strong democratic institution.Economic reform did miracle in Turkey,Poland and other countries.Ukraine which is very much like Poland,I don't find any excuse why Ukraine can't replicate the same.

Ukraine has one third of population of russia,so if Ukraine manage to achieve one-third of Russian economy which is very much possible then Ukraine can easily spend one-third to half of Russia's defence budget. That would be enough to keep Russia at bay in the border and in black sea.Russia never could be able to concentrate its all strength against Ukraine. The enormous size of Russia means it have to disperse its military force in wide distance.

Do you think think Russia can leave the Pacific theatre? Or Arctic,Baltic? or Caucasus? No.So Ukraine don't have to match Russia head to head.Half of military strength will be enough to give Russia a nightmare.

Task to make the Ukrainian army the strongest in Europe - in fact, is simple. We need someone, Martians or reptilians, to destroy all the other armies of Europe in states which are home to more than 1 million people. Then the army of Ukraine will be the strongest!

Russian-backed terrorists are panic-stricken having a horrific“Black Panther” occupied their minds (video)

Terrorists supported by Russia raised hue and cry about an unknown long-range weapon of the Ukrainian army devastating their lines with near-surgical precision in the town of Shyrokino located in the vicinity of Mariupol.

The foregoing statement could be found via YouTube (
).

While being on the mend, the shell-shocked terrorist a.k.a. “Indus” is very serious talking about a tank with a long-range gun annihilating the militants in scores.

Noteworthy, the terrorist says that the tank destroys targets on a distance up to 5 km. “Indus” emphatically states that the Ukrainians call this tank “Black Panther” or “Black Death”.

All along, “Indus” asserts that it is not a Ukrainian tank and he had never seen it before.

By contrast, the Ukrainian experts maintain that this is a new Ukrainian tank T-84 “OPLOT” (
).

Before the covert aggression of Russia against Ukraine occurred, the tank T-84 “OPLOT” was more oriented to cater for the foreign customer needs and never happened to be in service with the armed forces of Ukraine, but now the Ukrainians are heavily using it in the fight against terrorist in the east of the country.

Too much dreaming can lead to mental problems.
Militarily strong Ukraine is not dream. It was strong before and could become again with self help and western backing.Their current weakness is due to dismantling their army for over 20 years.

Look at the MAP  Ukraine is tiny compared to Russia. Ukraine can never challenge Russia.

map-of-russia-ukraine.jpg

Ukraine has one third of population of russia

No it doesn't. Russia population 145 million. Ukraine population at most 40 million. Back in 2001 Ukraine population was down to 45 million from 52 million in 1991. That was Ukraine's last census. Having lost Crimea Ukraine lost 2 million people. Plus thousands killed in war.

Do you think think Russia can leave the Pacific theatre? Or Arctic,Baltic? or Caucasus?

Russia can deploy its entire military to fight Ukraine. Russia has nukes. No one dares to mess with Russia. Ukraine has to watch its borders from Poland and Romania which hate Ukraine because Ukraine took their lands.

I dont know why people dismissed Ukraine Military Strength this quick, think about they had just fought and currently stablised a Russian Backing coup...Thatsin itself is something.

As we can see in the begining of the wa, Ukraine Military is literally thrid rated, yet they can hold out for a Russian backing invasion for a year. I dont remember can anyone do that.

In time, Ukrainian Military is going to get stronge, we already see the high water mark for the seperatist, as they tried, but none success to expand the front line, the front line is from now going to be pushed back into Russian side.

Dont forget, Ukraine only uses National Guard, Interior Troop and volunteer to fight the war at donbass, their army, yes abit small, was held back during the conflict.

Wrong. Russia never supported pro Russian rebels. Putin wants Ukraine to be whole and strong or else he would have recognized Donbas like he recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

If Ukraine ever dares to make a move on Crimea, which is officially Russian territory, then I guarantee you Ukraine would cease to exist.

We can dismiss it becos it has miserable military budget of $3.2 billion US dollar.

While Russia has at least USD80 billion.
