Ukraine says Pakistan could be a regional partner for the joint production of Antonov An-225.

Unlikely to be the AN-225, there must be some mis-quote here.

Other than that, Antonov/Ukraine is in no postion to be offereing joint production with anyone, the recent spat with Russia has all but crippled that country's and that firm's propects. Antonov is effectively closed down because of it and much of their sub-assemblies/components come from Russia which obviously wouldn't now.

Antonov pulled out of India's Avro replacement project because it was unable to feild a product as a result of the recent crisis and I don't see what's changed since then (last year).

Pakistan is going to be an important air transit point for cargo forwarding to central asia..and eastern china...Its cheaper to land at gwadar and forward by road or rail rather than landing from Europe into deep Central Asia..AN-225 Has seen the busiest time at Karachi hauling cargo for Afghanistan...the same formula..can be replicated for entire central asia with CPEC in operation..
AN-225s are in Pakistan reguarly right now supporting ISAF forces in Afghanistan, once they pull out this will diminish. As air cargo, you make a good point but isn't CPEC all about road and rail transport to Pakistani ports, there won't be a huge up take in the comparably cost-prohibitive air cargo arena and if there is what sense does it make for the PAF or GOP to own cargo a/c for this role? There are dedicated MNCs (FedEx/DHL) that specilise in this, no nation on earth has a sovereign cargo fleet for civlian cargo exports.

Oh and what about the C-130?
It has proper counter-measure systems on board, it's engines produce far less heat than An-225's meaning flares would be less effective, furthermore it was built with war in mind.
Something the An-225 lacks.
And even above all the An-225 lacks ability to land on broken and/or short runways and/or small pieces of flat land.

Pakistan should first produce Y-8 and Y-9 aircraft as those have more technology fusion than this beast does, and are more modern, even with propellers. Later on, another version of the Y-8 and Y-9 can be built for civilian use, saving Pakistan billions they currently spend in buying airbuses, etc.

This would also develop a commercial and heavy aircraft production industry inside Pakistan, creating hundreds of thousands of new jobs. Such an endeavor will eventually end up using jet engines for commercial passenger air-crafts, and would allow Pakistan to get into Jet engine assembly (initially) and later, into R&D and Manufacturing (similar to how the JFT program went from assembly to now producing close to 75% of the parts).

I think Ukraine is offering TOT so if that's cheaper, than it makes sense. You can always reduce the size to come up with a smaller version of this beast, to carry less cargo and passengers. This would come with Jet engines as is, so no propellers, which would allow Pakistan to setup a modern jet engine industry, vs. propellers in the above Y-8 /9 example (like how they did it with the JFT block I, starting directly with a 3.5th - 4th gen jet). But the TOT and manufacturing cost has to be cheaper, or at the same level as the Chinese for this type of an arrangement to make sense!!

That's why you need two version of whatever Pakistan eventually ends up working with through internal assembly and manufacturing, i.e. One version with propellers, and one with jet engines, for the sheer purposes you mentioned. I personally thought it would make sense to get TOT on Shanxi Y-8 and Y-9 platforms, and produce or assemble a jet engine for civilian use. That way, you get propeller one for more grunt work and a better version can serve Cargo and Civilian travel. You could reduce this beasts air-frame too and produce a propeller and a smaller jet engine based version too. Cost and Technology set have to make sense though between Chinese and this option.

And you know that only 1 or two build till date...i wonder why Pakistan need this big plane...Once they tried to build commercial passenger Jet with the capacity of 1500 passengers but rejected the idea later....May be because in case of accident or crash no airline in the world can stand 1500 human losses.

airline companies don't need such capacity, they prefer frequency over large capacity per flight.

A move from US backed Ukraine to defuse the ongoing good relationships of Russia and Pakistan. We all knows that this isn't going to happen and Ukrainian Government is quite aware of that too, but they had to announce such a ridiculous offer. We have always enjoyed our good relations with Ukraine and they are good friends. However, if they think that they can bribe us with such kinda offers than I am afraid it isn't going to happen. Pakistan simply doesn't have the capacity to intake such a massive project, may be in future who knows, lets not decide it right now, and Ukraine knows that we have a massive corruption problem.

Today's Russia on the other hand under the leadership of Putin has literary changed the game in this world played by the Western world for many decades. A recent developing relationship of Russia and Muslim world is a brief example of that.

And the recent Russian Military success in Syria has defined its power and her reliability of relationship in a completely different way. Kremlin at the times of USSR was not this much aggressive and supportive when it comes to help the allies and that was the only reason that the Countries who heavily relied upon Kremlin help, slowly and gradually started moving away from her. But now, under the leadership of Putin things are completely different, their is a sense of achievement and power. Russia without a doubt has sent a clear message to not only her allays but to her enemies too.

Note: And whenever any country in this world who goes against the will and interests of US, the mighty US than try to teach them a lesson. You can find out from a past that when Malaysia was hanging too much towards Russia, her passenger plane was shot down near Russia, (according to the western media it was Russian rebels who did it, however Kremlin denied it). Similarly, we have hundreds of other real events that are either directly or indirectly linked to US CIA's covert operations.

Is a wonderful platform

I think it has exceptional carriage capabilities

It has also transported a payload of 247,000 kilograms in one Trip

Would be interesting platform to make in Pakistan if it happens

a) Troop carriage
b) Transport of Tanks, APC, JF17 thunder component etc


Possible Future Designations
a) Fleet tanker (With adjustment)
b) Air Hospital to move to troubled areas
c) AWAC platform in air

So why not , would be a great venture for Pakistan/Ukraine from Aviation corporation perspective


With size parameters close to 747 I am sure it can be handled in airports

Maybe need PAC Kamra participation for manufacturing parts, it already does make parts for Boeing 777. Ukraine's production capabilities are in question because of their instability, they already couldn't fulfill the T-84 order to Thailand.

Just a random fact, SIAL Airport (Sialkot International) has the longest runway in Asia, they made it so it could be more than enough for a fully loaded AN-225. Its mostly funded by exporters and businessmen.

The plane was not designed as a Tactical deployer so that is a limitation that has to be overcome
Paratroop deploymemt / or delivery of good while in mid air etc that capability has to be introduced with a hatch at back of plane rather then the front opening up

But easy to see it can transport some military machines easily , supplies in abundance


Compare to C130 , its huge , here is Glaxy US plane for heavy load similar class as the Anatov

Up to 10 Tanks can easily fit in 1 load !!!!!

On high level if our forces were needed in Saudia or in Gulf such a machine would allows us to send 10 Tanks and may be 200 soldiers in one air lift

Quite an interesting capability

I read that it is stated this plane can carry so much food , that if a country is facing Famine , that such a danger can be averted by supply of fully loaded plane

A good chance to manufacture transport plane in collaboration with Ukraine.
We will learn technology as well can fulfill our military transport requirement by our own.
Later on these platform can be used as AWACS by installing required equipment with the help of China.

which makes it economical/ cost effective and perfect for large haulage . do you have any clue about the commercial business and its volume? there are setup costs yes but it opens an exclusive market opportunities. sending fresh food produce across the globe from both domestic and foreign suppliers when time is money. and also heavy industrial equipment doesn't need to be essentially broken down into pieces.

I can understand the negative Indian reaction because thats defines then but I am amazed by the illiterate and ill informed commentary by the rest of the people who remind me of a frog of the well. if you run a reliable and efficient transport fleet then you wont find time to sit down and rest and customers from across the globe will be queuing up to use your services.
whether it happens for Pakistan I dont know but if the mentality is negative, lazy and bitchy then nothing can be done. I am amazed we managed to split the atom and jointly build a jet when according to our own intellectuals .whenever they hear about anything to do their usual line . "what is the point of everything?"
