Ukraine develops brand new tank to become competitor for Russia's Armata

T-14 is a more of a technology demonstrator. Too soon to consider it a benchmark for other MBT designs.
The several Object tanks that precede the T-14 are technology demonstrators, whereas the T-14 is by all means a finalized vehicle.

It still needs improvements such as radar detection speed limits, but overall it's serviceable and a very good tank.

This what we need we should take a further leap investing in old tech will do no good if better technology is available

They have crap. They dont have many technologies required for next gen MBT, not to mention integration and fine tuning which also does not happen over night

Russia on the other hand has basic technologies and trials are underway

Su-47 Berkut is a technology demonstrator. But T-14 is in production - first bunch of 100 tanks was ordered already.
That doesn't negates my point. As good as T-14 sounds on paper, it is an unproven vehicle.

"Unproven vehicle" and "technology demonstrator" is two big differences, as they say in Odessa.

. . .
It has t-64 written all over it, the chassis, the turret, and roadwheels, and the 125mm smoothbore gun. Seems like Ukrainians are having a hard time getting rid of the good old t-64.

Turret?
What i noticed is that while this uses most of the chassis and body structure of T-64 the turret is essentially a totally new and modern one. I think this is the key difference. If you read about it, it will be a new tank and a good one at that. After all, look wise, all tanks will remain RELATIVELY same, it is the material you use and the technology they are equipped with to engage the enemy and defend themselves against counter fire.

Unmanned turret concept has been around in Ukraine since the 70s. Morozov envisioned it before anyone in the Soviet Union, the t-74 was to have the first unmanned turret and other goodies some of which we see today in Armata.

The current design seems nothing like it. Morozov was a genius of his time, something Ukrainian armor experts dearly miss these days.
