UK will work with Taliban should they come to power - British Defence Minister says

for the British, this is probably reminiscent of their relationship with Afghanistan post the Anglo-Afghan wars. At a certain point they accepted the reality of what the Afghans decided amongst themselves and moved on to other things. Not surprising they are the first country to have accepted the reality of what’s happening. Conversely, India will probably be the last country to accept the ground realities.

They have no choice. Realty is reality. Question is who will give the traitors in kabul refuge

British fought the Taliban and have respect for them thats why

British know Taliban they sat and eat with Taliban in Helmand province

let me tell you a story

Helmand was one of the toughest place to hold ground

Americans who did 3 tours of Iraq came to Helmand and they left, they couldn't take the heat

Iraq was hell on earth 2005, 2006, 2007 and the Iraqis would take drugs pure fanatical extremists

crazy lunatics would fight Americans in every corner Americans also went mad

however the they left Helmand to the British

British off course are the best in this type of fighting

that was until the Taliban meet them

it always started like this, first few weeks on new base nothing would happen

always dead quite and Brits would lose moral due to boredom

then the bicycle comes passed the base

then the goat header comes past the base

then the Sun sets and then comes the Ghosts from the dark of the night

Royal Marines used to do go foot patrols and they never ever managed to capture a Taliban

they could not rely on USAF for close air support because the lines between the British and Taliban were so close

so it was down to close quarter combat, Taliban were masters in Urban warfare but they had rules of engagement which were even stricter and superior than the UK rules

and its because of this the British have a huge respect for the Taliban

towards the end a British commander arranged meeting with Taliban

Taliban offered the Brits their hospitality, the commander asked we were fighting each other now we are eating together ? isn't it a bit strange?

Taliban said, you enter our house as our guest, your safety becomes our responsibility

British withdrawal was planed after that

how did the Gurkhas fare against the Taliban?

Kool story bro, but US marines were busting their *** over there in the south. 2005 British build Camp Bastion, few forward and combat operating post. They were bored because they were sitting comfortably inside their outpost. You can find videos of Taliban passing infront of British outpost on bikes, but soldiers wouldn’t bother to challenge them. Britisher were holding the fort but surrounding was all control by Taliban. US Army did struggled to main gains. But it all changed when in 08/09 US marines started arriving in there, they brought in Jets, MLRS, Tanks and everything. Britishers were overwhelmed and happy with such a huge surge of US marines. US almost took over camp Bastion, plus build their own massive Camp leatherneck next to it. Also added Afghan training base Camp Shorabak.

Now this is when the real fighting started. This was the only time when Taliban lose control of the land.
